Job Duties

  • Being visible and actively greeting, engaging and assisting customers
  • Processing customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently
  • Handling various tenders such as cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, offline SNAP EBT, WIC, rain checks, complex loyalty offers, coupons and checkout procedures according to company policy
  • Understanding and adhering to company limits on cash shortages and/or overages and working honestly and effectively to control loss
  • Complying with guidelines on restricted sale items such as alcohol, tobacco, DVDs
  • Reporting pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator
  • Following established policies and procedures for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons
  • Staying current with present, future, seasonal and special ads
  • Adhering to all food safety regulations and guidelines
  • Reinforcing safety programs by complying with safety procedures and reporting unsafe conditions, accidents or issues to store management
  • Practicing preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate department or store manager of needed repairs
  • Creating an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering product-related questions
  • Adhering to all local, state and federal laws and company guidelines
  • Working cooperatively in high-paced and sometimes stressful environments
  • Managing conflict in a reasonable, non-confrontational and cooperative manner
  • Acting with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information
  • Following directions and seeking assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues
  • Providing support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults
