Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs occasionally and 20 lbs frequently
- manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop and twist
- ability to communicate effectively
- ability to complete written forms
- knowledge of food safety, tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required by law
- ability to learn and memorize product codes and procedures
- ability to maintain mental alertness and perform basic math
- ability to operate check stand equipment
- ability to handle high stress situations and customer interactions
- use household cleaners to maintain work area
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- experience in customer service or retail environment preferred
- basic math skills
- ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- knowledge of POS systems and cash handling procedures
- ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- strong interpersonal skills
- ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately
- attention to detail
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
- operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale
- engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, coupons and refunds
- maintain knowledge of product locations, UPC codes and pricing
- keep check stand clean, neat and stocked
- stock, price and rotate merchandise
- assist customers at self-checkout lanes
- manage customer service counter duties as assigned
- follow all laws regarding sale of restricted items
- adhere to Food Stamp and WIC voucher procedures
- monitor self-checkout area for safety hazards and customer assistance
- respond to errors and alerts at self-checkout stations
- monitor multiple simultaneous transactions
- prioritize safety of employees and customers
