Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs occasionally and 20 lbs frequently
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop and twist
  • ability to communicate effectively
  • ability to complete written forms
  • knowledge of food safety, tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required by law
  • ability to learn and memorize product codes and procedures
  • ability to maintain mental alertness and perform basic math
  • ability to operate check stand equipment
  • ability to handle high stress situations and customer interactions
  • use household cleaners to maintain work area

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • experience in customer service or retail environment preferred
  • basic math skills
  • ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • knowledge of POS systems and cash handling procedures
  • ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • strong interpersonal skills
  • ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
  • operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale
  • engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, coupons and refunds
  • maintain knowledge of product locations, UPC codes and pricing
  • keep check stand clean, neat and stocked
  • stock, price and rotate merchandise
  • assist customers at self-checkout lanes
  • manage customer service counter duties as assigned
  • follow all laws regarding sale of restricted items
  • adhere to Food Stamp and WIC voucher procedures
  • monitor self-checkout area for safety hazards and customer assistance
  • respond to errors and alerts at self-checkout stations
  • monitor multiple simultaneous transactions
  • prioritize safety of employees and customers
