Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform friendly and courteous customer relations
  • Ability to operate check stand equipment
  • Ability to lift and maneuver objects frequently up to 20 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform physical tasks such as bending, twisting and walking
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers
  • Ability to follow state and federal laws regarding sale of restricted items
  • Ability to handle monetary transactions accurately
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Ability to use basic math skills
  • As required by state and local laws, must have food safety/handlers cards, tobacco and alcohol sales certification where applicable
  • Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination

  • Ability to conduct visual inspection and read information on merchandise
  • Ability to lift and maneuver objects frequently up to 20 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently for long periods
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination
  • Ability to learn and memorize considerable amount of information including PLU codes, product location, check stand procedures and company policies
  • Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning, verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
  • Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area
  • Ability to perform primary duties efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to manage potentially high stress situations, volatile or unsatisfied customers and a high volume of transactions and customers

Job Duties

  • Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • Operates check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • Processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, processing coupons, and refunds adhering to cash handling and lane accountability policies
  • Maintains knowledge of current product location, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
  • Maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures safe and secure work area
  • Stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
  • May be assigned to a multi station self-checkout lane as needed
  • May be assigned to the customer service counter as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed
  • Follows all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted or regulated items
  • Adheres to US Department of Agriculture Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • Regularly moves within SCO area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
  • Initiates and engages contact with customers during SCO transactions
  • Responds to SCO stations to review, address and clear alerts or errors
  • Monitors multiple simultaneous transactions and verifies payment in fast paced setting
  • Actively engages customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist and ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
  • Maintains high awareness of self-checkout area and customers, anticipates needs, monitors activity, makes eye contact
  • Prioritizes safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns according to company policy
