Job Description
This position is with a fast-paced restaurant specializing in drive-in dining service, where traditional customer interaction is enhanced by the unique role of the Carhop. The restaurant prioritizes exceptional guest service and quality food delivery, sustaining a lively and engaging atmosphere that often features car-side dining and roller skating carhops for a nostalgic and enjoyable guest experience. Working here means being part of a dynamic team that values speed, friendliness, and attention to detail in every customer interaction.
The Carhop role is integral to delivering an outstanding drive-in dining experience. This position requires sitting or skating guests' orders directly to their vehicles, ensuring every item meets high standards of appearance and quality before it reaches the customer. Carhops must balance trays that can weigh up to 25 pounds, all while providing quick and cheerful service. They play a crucial role in maintaining customer satisfaction by promptly responding to requests, assisting with payments and change accurately, and clearing away trays and trash from multiple areas such as vehicles, patios, drive-thru lanes, and parking lots.
Beyond serving food, Carhops are responsible for a variety of cleaning and sanitation tasks throughout their shift. This includes regularly disposing of trash, mopping, sweeping, washing dishes and food preparation tools, wiping down counters, sanitizing food preparation areas, cleaning equipment, and managing used grease properly in line with the company’s operational standards. The atmosphere is fast-moving, often demanding multitasking and consistent attention to cleanliness and safety.
This position reports directly to the Manager on Duty (MOD) who provides supervision and support. Carhops may occasionally need to move and stock food products weighing up to 50 pounds and, if trained as a Skating Carhop, perform duties while on roller skates. This adds a physical dimension to the job that requires balance, agility, and stamina. The work environment is physically demanding with constant standing, bending, reaching, lifting, and exposure to varying temperatures including heat from cooking areas and cold from freezers.
Shifts are irregular and include nights, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the restaurant’s operating hours and peak customer times. This diverse schedule requires flexibility and reliability in attendance. Those who thrive in this role are those who enjoy interacting with customers, take pride in maintaining high standards, and are able to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team. This role is nonexempt, meaning it is hourly and typically offers opportunities for tips and bonuses dependent on performance. The Carhop position is suitable for individuals seeking an active, customer-facing role in the restaurant industry where energy, enthusiasm, and great service are rewarded.
