Job Description
Johnson & Wales University is a renowned institution specializing in career-focused education, with an emphasis on hospitality and culinary arts. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, the university is recognized for its commitment to fostering student success through rigorous academics and hands-on learning experiences in various professional fields. As a leader in educational excellence and campus dining services, Johnson & Wales University operates multiple dining facilities on its campus, including retail dining centers that cater to a diverse student body, faculty, and staff. These operations are vital in promoting a vibrant campus community and ensuring access to high-quality food services.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and seasoned individual to join our team as a Retail Dining Operations Supervisor. This full-time role is based at our Providence campus and involves overseeing the daily operations of retail dining facilities to ensure smooth functioning and achievement of revenue targets. The Retail Dining Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in managing both the staff and operational aspects of the dining centers, ensuring excellence in food safety, sanitation, customer service, and financial performance. This role requires a leader who can balance administrative responsibilities with hands-on involvement in dining service activities to create a positive dining experience for all patrons.
In this position, the Retail Dining Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing daily counter operations, supervising cash handling procedures, and maintaining all sanitation and safety standards as established by both university policies and regulatory requirements. A key part of the job includes overseeing the proper storage and rotation of ready-made food products to comply with food safety standards, thus guaranteeing the health and well-being of the campus community. The individual will also assist in menu creation and contribute to food preparation and delivery, promoting a diverse and appealing selection of dining options.
Inventory control is another critical area of responsibility, as the supervisor must maintain supply levels by ordering from approved vendors while adhering to cost management protocols. Additionally, the supervisor coordinates staffing schedules to align with operational needs, balancing the requirements of full-time employees and student workers. Monitoring and managing the departmental budget is essential to ensure financial sustainability and meet revenue objectives.
Staff development is also a fundamental component of this role. The supervisor will mentor and develop department personnel, fostering professional growth and ensuring that job accountabilities and university policies are consistently met. An important aspect of this is supervision of student employees, providing them with meaningful work experiences that enhance their academic and professional development. The position demands flexibility, professionalism, and a proactive approach to problem-solving to meet the dynamic needs of the campus dining environment.
Qualified candidates should be prepared to work nights and weekends, reflecting the operational hours of the dining facilities. This role is ideal for someone passionate about culinary services, retail operations, and team leadership who seeks to contribute positively to campus life at a prestigious university. Johnson & Wales University is committed to inclusivity and equal opportunity; we encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply and join our welcoming community.
