Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • three years decorating experience or equivalent
  • completion of a certificate program in pastry arts preferred
  • health department training required
  • ability to calculate percentages and ratios when measuring ingredients
  • ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margins, markup, percentages, proportions, ratios, and volume
  • ability to understand and effectively communicate quality goals to customers
  • ability to work well and communicate with others as a part of a team
  • ability to read, write, and understand English effectively
  • knowledge of basic cake decoration techniques and baking principles

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Provide optimum customer satisfaction
  • maintain a neat and well-groomed personal appearance and comply with company dress regulations
  • report all life, safety, and fire hazards and comply with occupational safety and health regulations
  • establish and maintain positive and productive vendor relationships
  • maintain good communication in the department and throughout the organization
  • notify department manager of personnel issues or policy violations
  • assist in receiving and unloading merchandise and verify receiving against invoices
  • load and unload oven
  • operate mixer
  • assist in ordering and maintaining inventory control of ingredients and supplies
  • control excessive use of utilities and water and observe conservation practices
  • confirm accuracy of invoice documents and record them
  • accurately record markups, markdowns, in-store use of merchandise, and spoilage write-offs
  • properly label and date all products
  • achieve and exceed margin and sales targets
  • follow weights and measures procedures
  • maintain, organize, clean, stock, and rotate daily received walk-in products
  • comply with state health and safety codes and maintain a safe and sanitary department
  • check refrigeration equipment performance
  • use and maintain equipment orderly
  • perform all duties related to decorating, pastry production, sanitation, and stocking of bakery products including decorating cakes and pastries, trimming and shaping cakes, spreading and tinting icing, forming decorations, preparing icing mixtures
  • follow schematics and sales plans
  • ensure all items have expiration dates
  • participate in Axonify
  • comply with company compliance initiatives
