The Department of Food Services at Greene-Hills K-8 is currently seeking a Lead Cook to join its cafeteria team. This role is integral to the smooth operation of the school’s food program and directly influences the dining experience of students. Reporting to the Director or Assistant Director of Food Services, the Lead Cook will contribute significantly to the preparation and service of meals that meet quality and safety standards. The position operates under a school-year schedule of 2025-2026, working eight-hour days from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm to ensure meals are well-prepared and served efficiently during school hours.
The Lead Cook’s responsibilities include overseeing food preparation, serving meals, and maintaining sanitation standards throughout the kitchen to ensure compliance with health regulations. The individual in this role will assist in preparing vegetables, salads, sandwiches, and a variety of menu items, as well as setting up and breaking down the serving counter. They will be expected to uphold cleanliness in all designated work areas and perform general kitchen cleanup to maintain a safe and hygienic working environment. This position does not include supervisory duties over other staff but requires a high degree of initiative and a proactive approach to food service challenges.
Candidates for this post should have experience in large-scale food preparation and serving, with a preference for those holding a high school diploma or GED. The ability to read, comprehend, and communicate effectively is essential to follow menus and safety protocols accurately. Basic computer skills are beneficial for record-keeping and inventory management. This role requires stamina and physical capability, including standing for long periods, lifting items up to 50 pounds, and performing repetitive motions. Working in this environment also demands adaptability to temperature fluctuations and the ability to perform tasks under time constraints while interacting effectively with students, staff, and visitors.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree preferred
- Previous experience with large-scale cooking and food preparation serving
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s
- Basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and the community
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies
