The Cooking Associate role at Publix's distribution center in Lakeland is an essential position responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals for Publix associates. This role requires individuals to have culinary skills honed through experience in diverse cooking environments such as restaurants, cafeterias, or culinary schools. The cooking associate plays a vital part in ensuring associate satisfaction by providing nutritious, high-quality meals served efficiently and courteously. Associates in this position are expected to maintain high food safety standards by obtaining and maintaining Food Safety Professionals certification or an equivalent certification within 90 days of their start date. Beyond cooking expertise, the ideal candidate should demonstrate physical stamina, able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform physical movements such as bending, stooping, and twisting. The role also demands strong teamwork abilities, solid communication skills for reading, writing, solving math problems and interpreting instructions, and a positive attitude marked by enthusiasm, initiative, and pride in their work. This is a dynamic and fast-paced role that demands flexibility, including working nights, weekends, holidays, and extended timeframes, to meet the needs of the distribution center’s operational requirements.
