Job Description
Valley Medical Center is a prominent healthcare institution located in Renton, Washington, dedicated to providing exceptional medical services and compassionate care to the community it serves. As a part of its commitment to overall patient and visitor experience, the center houses a Food Management and Nutrition Services (FMNS) Department responsible for delivering high-quality food services that meet the diverse needs of patients, visitors, and staff. The FMNS department ensures a clean, safe, and pleasant dining environment while adhering to health and safety standards prescribed by regulatory bodies. They pride themselves on fostering a welcoming atmosphere where nutrition and customer satisfaction are prioritized alongside the medical care provided at the facility.
The role of the Cafe Worker at Valley Medical Center is an integral part of the food services team within the FMNS Department. This full-time position, based at the VMC Main Campus in Renton, focuses on delivering optimal guest satisfaction by providing efficient and courteous retail food service. Working primarily evening shifts which comprise 40 hours per week, the Cafe Worker engages directly with customers, taking food orders, serving meals, preparing specialty beverages including lattes and cappuccinos, and handling cash transactions with accuracy and professionalism. This role is pivotal in maintaining the center’s reputation for quality service through attentive and friendly customer interactions.
The salary range for the position spans from $22.65 to $34.86 per hour, depending on experience. Applicants are expected to possess a valid Washington State Food Handler's permit, demonstrating compliance with food safety regulations. The Cafe Worker must also be capable of meeting the professional appearance standards of the organization, communicate effectively in English, and possess experience related to food service or barista tasks. The role demands physical stamina to handle frequent lifting, bending, and long periods on the feet, and requires the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment that occasionally includes working with cleaning chemicals and responding to varied requests.
Beyond operational duties, the Cafe Worker contributes to the department’s image by participating in marketing promotions, adhering to sanitation practices, maintaining accurate cash flow records, and actively supporting team training. As a vital member of the FMNS Department, the person in this role must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to outstanding customer service tailored to a healthcare setting’s unique demands. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about food services and customer satisfaction in a health-oriented environment, offering growth, professional development, and the chance to make a positive impact daily.
