Advocate Health is one of the largest nonprofit, integrated health systems in the United States, formed through the merger of Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health. It operates under various regional names including Advocate Health Care in Illinois, Atrium Health in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Alabama, and Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin. With its headquarters based in Charlotte, North Carolina, Advocate Health serves nearly 6 million patients across 69 hospitals and more than 1,000 care locations. This extensive network employs approximately 155,000 teammates and is deeply involved in clinical innovation, research studies, and thousands of educational programs including graduate medical education with over 2,000 residents and fellows. Advocate Health is nationally recognized for excellence in multiple specialties including cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, pediatrics, rehabilitation, organ transplants, burn treatments, and musculoskeletal programs. The organization is committed to providing equitable care and contributing significantly to community benefits with over $6 billion annually.
The position available is a part-time Barista role located at the Coffee Shop within the 11106 Aurora St. Lukes Medical Center, an Advocate Health facility. This role requires flexible shift availability including early mornings starting at 5:30 AM and late shifts until 8 PM, with mandatory availability on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and every other weekend. The pay range for this position is between $18.85 and $28.30 per hour. This role is not eligible for typical benefits that come with full-time employment but offers a great opportunity to be part of a dynamic healthcare environment providing quality food and beverage service.
As a Barista in this healthcare setting, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering legendary customer service by greeting customers with a friendly, quick, and personalized approach. The barista will handle all sales transactions accurately through the point of sale (POS) system and maintain cash handling integrity. Strict adherence to Starbucks recipes and food preparation standards is essential to ensuring the highest quality of beverages and food items served. This includes preparing top quality espresso shots, managing specialty drinks, and maintaining equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and sanitation standards.
Working in a fast-paced environment, the barista will need to maintain composure during busy periods, set a positive example for team members, communicate effectively with staff and management, and contribute to achieving sales and profit goals. Responsibilities include monitoring and recording food and equipment temperatures to ensure safety and compliance with food handling standards, assisting with inventory management, replenishing supplies, and performing continuous sanitation duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment. Knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards and safe food handling techniques is critical in this role.
Physical demands include standing for extended periods, frequent walking, reaching, bending, squatting, lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally, and exposure to typical kitchen hazards such as sharp utensils and heat sources. The position emphasizes teamwork, self-direction, and excellent communication skills to foster a positive workplace and outstanding customer engagement. Overall, this role blends the art of skilled beverage preparation with the commitment to exceptional service within a healthcare facility, ensuring a welcoming and safe coffee shop experience for patients, staff, and visitors alike.
