Job Description

Abundant Church is a vibrant and community-focused organization that seeks to foster spiritual growth and connection among its members. Located within the dynamic environment of its campus, the church provides various ministries and services designed to support and enrich the lives of its congregation and community at large. Within its expansive framework, the church operates a welcoming cafe that serves as a social hub for visitors and church members alike. This cafe emphasizes not only quality in its offerings but also in the interactions and atmosphere it provides, supporting the church's broader mission of building relationships and ministering to people in meaningful ways. The cafe is managed under the Education, Leadership, and Pastoral (ELP) department, which plays a critical role in maintaining the high standards and culture of excellence the church embodies.

The role of Cafe Barista at Abundant Church is a part-time position that offers approximately 10 to 12 hours of work per week, primarily on Sundays. This timing aligns with church activities, allowing the barista to engage directly with the vibrant community that congregates on weekends. The position is non-exempt and part-time, making it ideal for individuals seeking flexible work hours within a spiritually nurturing environment. Reporting to the Cafe Manager, the barista is an integral member of the cafe team and is responsible for preparing and serving a variety of beverages including coffee, tea, and specialty drinks.

The core responsibility of the barista is to provide excellent customer service by greeting patrons warmly, taking their orders accurately, and ensuring each beverage is crafted to the highest standard following specific recipes. Additionally, the role requires attention to detail regarding customer preferences, such as coffee blend, dairy, and sugar quantities. Beyond serving beverages, the barista also offers food items like cookies, pastries, and muffins, ensuring a delightful experience for all visitors.

Maintaining cleanliness and adhering to health and safety regulations is paramount, reflecting Abundant Church’s commitment to a safe and welcoming environment. The barista is expected to clean and sanitize workstations, seating areas, and equipment regularly. Moreover, this position involves supporting volunteer training, highlighting the leadership aspects embedded within the role.

A unique aspect of working at Abundant Church is participating in the Abundant Staff Agreement, which emphasizes keeping people first, fostering a culture of blessing and support, and advancing the church's vision and mission. This spiritual and cultural commitment is part of the employment experience, aiming to cultivate a respectful and uplifting workplace where employees and volunteers alike are empowered to contribute to the larger kingdom-building mission.

Candidates for the barista role should possess excellent communication skills, the ability to multitask effectively, and a positive attitude toward continuous learning and teamwork. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and up to a year of related work experience is preferred. Physical requirements include the ability to lift at least 15 pounds, accommodating the physical nature of the barista’s duties.

Ultimately, the Cafe Barista at Abundant Church is more than a service role; it is an opportunity to engage with a faith-driven community, contribute to creating a warm and inviting environment, and support the church’s mission through everyday interactions and service. This position is suited for individuals who desire to combine their customer service skills with their faith and community values in a part-time capacity that complements their lifestyle and spiritual commitments.
