The role of the Cafe Service Team Member is integral to the daily operations of the cafe, reporting directly to the Cafe Manager. This position demands a strong commitment to customer service excellence, food safety, and operational efficiency. The individual will be responsible for a variety of tasks including food preparation, beverage making, and maintaining cleanliness throughout the cafe. Attention to detail is crucial, as the role involves ensuring all food is displayed attractively, that all health codes are strictly followed, and that the cafe environment remains neat and orderly at all times. The role also requires the ability to interact professionally with guests, address their needs promptly, and uphold the core values of the organization, including respect, accountability, and a positive attitude.

In addition to customer service, this position requires technical skills such as operating a Point of Sale system, handling cash accurately, and managing inventory in coordination with vendors and facilities teams. The role involves physical activity including standing for extended periods, lifting and moving items up to 50 pounds, and maintaining the cleanliness of the cafe environment. The successful candidate must possess a Food Handlers license and have experience as a barista, able to prepare specialty coffee and tea drinks with skill and consistency.

Job Requirements

  • Excellent customer service
  • Able to work by standing on legs and feet for up to 8 hours each day
  • Be detailed oriented and organized
  • Able to follow all health laws and company policies pertaining to the handling of food and guest services
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to occasionally lift, move, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to communicate and relate well to all ages of the general public and with coworkers
  • No history of allergy related to animals or plants that might interfere with the ability to work
  • Successful completion of all pre-employment screening
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, or crawl
  • Required to frequently talk and hear
  • No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance, and agility of movement

Job Qualifications

  • Food Handlers license
  • Experience as a barista making specialty coffee and tea drinks
  • Previous experience in cafe or restaurant environment preferred
  • Experience handling a cash register and cash handling
  • Knowledge of health codes and policies pertaining to food safety and guest services
  • Ability to follow stale dating and food safety rules

Job Duties

  • Assist in food service operations including handling of food properly using the correct tools, gloves, and serving pieces
  • Make specialty hot and cold coffee and tea drinks as a barista
  • Open each morning by displaying all food properly
  • Set up furniture, fill all condiments, utensils, and napkins
  • Wipe down all tables, counters, and display units for complete cleanliness
  • Operate a computer Point of Sale system inclusive of cash handling
  • Maintain accurate cash drawing proving each day
