Job Description
Brigham Young University (BYU) is the flagship higher education institution of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, known for its commitment to faith, excellence, and academic rigor. Located on a beautiful and historic campus, BYU offers an inspiring environment where employees and students alike are encouraged to grow both spiritually and intellectually. Rooted deeply in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, BYU’s mission "To assist individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life" guides every element of the university's operations, shaping a unique culture of belonging and dedication. As a respected university that blends academic achievement with religious values, BYU provides opportunities not only for professional development but also for personal and spiritual growth. Weekly devotionals and numerous learning experiences create a vibrant campus community that values service, faith, and intellectual pursuit.
This specific role focuses on catering services within BYU’s dining operations. The position is designed for an individual passionate about customer service, event coordination, and food service management, especially within an educational institution that holds strong faith-based values. As a Catering Consultant, the incumbent will be responsible for consulting with campus departments, local businesses, and the general public regarding their catering needs. This requires hands-on involvement in not only taking orders but also ensuring the seamless coordination between customers and the culinary team. The person in this role will provide price quotes, menu descriptions, and customize offerings in consultation with the culinary staff to meet the diverse needs of various events.
In addition to customer consultation, the role entails leadership duties during catered events. This includes coordinating room setups, supervising student staff when necessary, and ensuring that all logistical aspects of the event align with customer expectations and university standards. The Catering Consultant must also ensure safety and sanitation protocols are met according to BYU Dining Services standards and maintain communication with other departments such as custodial and maintenance teams to support each event’s success.
BYU values individuals who demonstrate a firm commitment to the university's mission and are willing to contribute to a community centered on faith, service, and quality. The position requires flexibility to work some evenings and holidays, reflecting the necessities of customer events. Compensation ranges from $19.00 to $24.00 per hour, depending on experience, and includes an attractive benefits package, highlighting BYU’s investment in its employees’ well-being and professional satisfaction. This role is perfectly suited for candidates with a background in catering or related food services, coupled with strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Supervisory experience is preferred, demonstrating leadership ability when managing events and student staff.
