Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand or walk for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour shift
  • Hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • Ability to perform motions such as bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to work in environments up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ability to work in wet and cold conditions
  • Must be able to handle knives and cutting equipment safely
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment including box cutters and electric pallet jacks

Job Qualifications

  • Fourteen plus months retail experience
  • Successful completion of Whole Foods Market Butcher Apprentice Program or equivalent training
  • Working knowledge of meat cutting processes and procedures
  • Excellent cutting skills including breaking down sub-primal and retail cuts
  • Extensive knowledge of meat and seafood cuts and cooking techniques
  • Ability to visually inspect products for quality and freshness
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Customer service orientation
  • Ability to follow directions and manage time effectively

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties

  • Cut, platter, and merchandise products including beef, pork, lamb, veal, and poultry
  • Prepare specialty meat merchandise such as sausage, oven-ready products, and cured meats
  • Check product quality to meet Whole Foods Market standards
  • Maintain sampling program
  • Monitor and assist in preventing spoilage
  • Mentor and support assigned Meat Cutter trainees
  • Provide excellent customer service and apply suggestive selling techniques
  • Maximize sales potential through proper prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising
  • Follow and ensure compliance with health, sanitation, weights and measures, and safe work practices
  • Maintain clean and sanitary work and shopping environment
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties
  • Report safety hazards and violations promptly
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
