Job Description
Agawam Hunt is a historic and prestigious private club located in Rumford, Rhode Island. Established in 1897, it is one of the original 25 USGA Member Clubs, known for its rich heritage and dedication to providing an exceptional experience for its members. Situated just minutes from downtown Providence, the club offers a welcoming, family-friendly environment that operates year-round. Agawam Hunt features an impressive array of recreational facilities including an 18-hole golf course designed by the legendary Donald Ross, alongside indoor and outdoor tennis courts, pickleball, platform tennis, squash courts, a swimming pool, and vibrant social activities for families and individuals alike. The club is highly regarded not only for its sports amenities but also for its premier Food & Beverage program, which complements its elegant clubhouse and outstanding service standards.
The Busser position at Agawam Hunt plays a vital role in supporting the club's dining and event service operations. This role is essential to maintaining the high standards of service that members and guests expect. As a Busser, the individual will contribute to creating a polished and professional dining atmosphere where service flows seamlessly. Responsibilities include ensuring dining areas are impeccably prepared, tables are properly maintained during service, and guests receive attentive hospitality at all times. The role demands efficiency, keen attention to cleanliness, and effective teamwork to support servers and management throughout each dining event or function.
In this position, the Busser will prepare and set dining areas according to detailed floor plans and service standards, polish glassware and cutlery, and organize service stations to guarantee readiness for each service period. Additional duties include assisting with the setup and breakdown of special events and private functions, maintaining the dining room’s cleanliness, and ensuring tables are correctly marked and chairs aligned to enhance the overall guest experience.
During service hours, the Busser maintains a constant presence on the floor, anticipating and responding to the needs of both guests and serving staff. This includes clearing and resetting tables promptly and quietly between courses, refilling water and bread service with proper presentation, running food to tables, delivering condiments, and supporting servers as necessary. Communication with captains, servers, and management is key to maintaining the optimum flow and timing of service.
Post-service responsibilities include assisting in clearing, cleaning, and resetting the dining room for subsequent shifts or events. The Busser is also responsible for restocking side stations, polishing serviceware, and helping with event turnover and breakdowns, which may involve moving furniture and service equipment. Adhering to the closing checklist and supporting the overall event management process further ensures smooth operations.
Ideal candidates for this role have previous restaurant or event service experience, though it is not a strict requirement. Strong communication and teamwork skills, the physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods, and a good sense of timing, organization, and professionalism are essential. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed is required to meet the club’s service demands.
This role offers the opportunity to be part of a vibrant, tight-knit community and a chance to contribute to an esteemed club with a proud tradition and an ongoing commitment to excellence in hospitality.
