Job Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Possess a valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B)
- Meet district driving record requirements
- Registered through the Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination
- Ability to follow verbal instructions
- Ability to operate safety and adaptive equipment
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
Job Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Possess a valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B) with a driving record meeting District requirements
- Registered through the Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination
- Ability to follow verbal instructions
- Ability to operate safety and adaptive equipment
- Experience working with children with disabilities preferred
Job Duties
- Operate a school bus on assigned routes transporting children to and from school and related activities in a safe and timely manner
- Maintain, read, and understand route sheets including time changes and report any requests for changes to supervisors immediately
- Maintain scheduled routes to establish time and mileage accurately
- Manage student behavior using appropriate communication and discipline, reporting issues to school officials with written referrals
- Maintain good work habits including punctuality and low absenteeism for daily assignments and extra trips
- Properly care for vehicle and component parts according to district guidelines to minimize wear and extend vehicle life
- Operate the bus two-way radio or telephone correctly per district policy
- Inspect vehicle before and after trips completing all necessary forms and reports
- Safely operate the vehicle allowing passengers to board and disembark
- Use adaptive transportation lifts to board and discharge challenged passengers safely
- Keep bus clean and orderly including daily cleaning and lost item checks
- Maintain a presentable appearance with neat grooming and good hygiene
- Foster cooperative attitudes with colleagues, supervisors, parents, and school personnel promoting goodwill
- Fuel bus following terminal standards
- Control emergency situations effectively
- Perform bus evacuation drills twice annually
- Manage control of driver book, vehicle keys, pre-trip and inspection forms, field trip and headcount forms turning them in as required
- Control fuel charge cards during long and overnight trips returning them promptly
- Complete driving skills evaluations successfully
- Attend all required training, safety meetings, and in-services
- Maintain satisfactory driving and criminal background checks complying with all local, state, and federal regulations
- Submit to required substance abuse testing and meet annual physical examination standards
- Accurately complete assigned forms and reports
- Perform other duties as assigned efficiently and cooperatively
