Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is a prominent utility company that provides natural gas and electricity to millions of customers throughout northern and central California. With a rich history spanning over a century, PG&E operates a vast and sophisticated infrastructure that includes generating plants, substations, transmission lines, and a wide variety of facilities such as service centers, data centers, contact centers, office buildings, warehouses, equipment yards, vehicle maintenance garages, Customer Service Offices (CSO), and training centers. This extensive network covers a service territory of approximately 72,000 square miles and includes managing approximately 8.2 million square feet of real estate assets. PG&E is committed to safety, sustainability, and maintaining the reliability of their energy delivery systems while being a responsible corporate citizen within the communities they serve.
The Corporate Real Estate Strategy and Services (CRESS) division at PG&E plays a critical role in overseeing the planning, acquisition, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of all PG&E facilities. Within this division, the role of Stationary Building Mechanic is essential to ensuring the ongoing functionality, safety, and upkeep of these high-rise buildings and associated grounds. This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245, highlighting the company’s strong commitment to union representation and collective bargaining agreements.
The Stationary Building Mechanic will be primarily responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and miscellaneous service tasks related to the care and upkeep of PG&E’s building infrastructure. This includes working on plumbing fixtures, HVAC systems, electrical lighting, furniture repairs, flooring, door hardware, and other mechanical equipment essential to building operations. This role requires an individual who is skilled in using hand tools and performing minor construction and reconstruction tasks. The mechanic will often work independently or with indirect supervision after sufficient training and demonstration of abilities.
The starting hourly wage for this position is $49.95, reflecting a competitive compensation aligned with the local cost of living, skill requirements, certifications, and collective bargaining agreements. The position is onsite in Hayward, California, requiring flexibility to work various schedules including nights, weekends, overtime, and differing weather conditions.
Working in this capacity at PG&E offers employees the opportunity to contribute to a vital utility infrastructure serving millions while advancing their career with a longstanding reputable company committed to employee development, safety, and workplace diversity.
