The Cook role at Buca di Beppo is essential to the success of the restaurant. This position involves preparing all menu items to precise specifications, maintaining a clean and organized work station, and ensuring food safety and sanitation throughout the kitchen. It requires attention to detail, adherence to recipes, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The Cook is responsible not only for cooking but also for inspecting food preparation and serving areas to meet stringent quality and safety standards.

The Cook at Buca di Beppo will prepare high-quality food in a timely manner by turning or stirring foods to ensure even cooking, seasoning dishes according to recipes or experience, tasting and testing food, and measuring ingredients accurately. Additionally, the Cook will set up the kitchen line according to guidelines, pre-cut ingredients to reduce preparation time, check kitchen equipment functionality, and replenish stock as needed. The role also includes completing and participating in line checks to maintain quality, assisting with kitchen cleaning and organization, and following all safety and sanitation policies.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum one year cooking experience in a high-volume restaurant preferred
  • Ability to perform essential functions using vision, hearing, tasting, smelling, touching, and speaking

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Consistently prepare high-quality food in a timely manner and follow all company recipes and specifications
  • Turn or stir foods to ensure even cooking
  • Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience
  • Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently using tasting, smelling, or piercing
  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment using various kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work station and kitchen
  • Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure safe, sanitary food-handling practices
  • Comply with all portion sizes, quality standards, kitchen rules, policies, and procedures
  • Estimate expected food consumption and requisition or purchase supplies or procure food from storage
  • Set up line according to kitchen guidelines and par sheets
  • Pre-cut ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, deli meats to reduce preparation time
  • Check if kitchen equipment is operational
  • Stock stations to par levels
  • Check stations for equipment and tools
  • Memorize ingredients and portion sizes for menu items
  • Wrap, date, and refrigerate food
  • Sanitize cutting boards
  • Organize station shelves
  • Hand-clean knives
  • Complete and participate in line checks to ensure quality
  • Assist with cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk-ins, and storage areas
  • Wash hands frequently
  • Use kitchen utensils, knives, and equipment safely and responsibly
  • Work as a team and use positive communication
  • Clean, stock, and maintain the line throughout shift
  • Follow all safety and sanitation policies
