Job Description

This position is part of the NAF Career Program and is located at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. The hiring agency is a federal government entity responsible for providing high-quality recreational services to military personnel and their families. The role being recruited is for a Bowling Center Manager responsible for the economic and efficient operation of bowling center facilities and activities. This position requires leadership in implementing higher-level directives and formulating procedures and programs to ensure the highest standards in food and beverage services, recreational activities, and promotional events. The manager will oversee the acquisition and management of supplies, equipment, and resale merchandise to maintain optimal inventory. Financial stewardship is critical, as the manager establishes budgetary goals based on market analysis, prepares budgets, analyzes financial outcomes, and ensures the financial health of the center.

Additionally, the Bowling Center Manager supervises workforce management, including recruitment, training, and staff development. They are charged with managing real property resources, advising on renovations, improvements, and construction projects to maintain an excellent environment for patrons. The role includes promoting and organizing open and league bowling as well as special events, conducting bowling classes, and ensuring all maintenance and preventive maintenance activities on facilities and equipment are completed. The manager also oversees associated operations such as a pro shop and snack bar, ensuring they meet customer needs.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Must have progressively responsible administrative, professional, technical, or other work experience providing a general knowledge of management principles and practices
  • Specialized experience in operation or management of a civilian or military bowling center with supervisory responsibilities
  • Ability to perform duties and responsibilities of a bowling center manager
  • Professional bowling degree from an accredited college or university may substitute experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively and lead a diverse workforce
  • Experience with budget preparation and financial analysis
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Knowledge of property management and maintenance practices

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the economic and efficient operation of bowling center facilities and activities
  • Implements higher-level directives and formulates procedures and programs to ensure high standards of food and beverage, recreational and promotional programs
  • Establishes, reviews, and evaluates food service, purchase of supplies, equipment and resale merchandise
  • Establishes financial goals commensurate with market analysis of area or region
  • Prepares budget, analyzes financial results and maintains solid financial condition of the center
  • Responsible for workforce management, recruitment and staff training
  • Manages real property resources and provides expert advice on renovations, improvements, minor and major construction
  • Promotes, organizes and schedules open and league bowling and special events
  • Conducts or ensures conduct of bowling classes
  • Ensures that maintenance and preventive maintenance are performed on all bowling-related facilities and equipment
  • Oversees operation of a pro shop and/or snack bar
