Job Description
Helen Ross McNabb Center is a reputable nonprofit organization based in Blount County, Tennessee, dedicated to providing comprehensive behavioral health and substance use treatment services. With a strong commitment to improving lives within the community, the Center offers a broad spectrum of services aimed at helping individuals overcome mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and other social difficulties. Established with a mission to support vulnerable populations through compassionate care and evidence-based practices, Helen Ross McNabb Center fosters an environment where clients can receive the support and treatment they need to lead healthier and more productive lives.
This role, the Blount Substance Use Treatment Meal Prepper, is a vital part of the Center's adult residential substance use treatment program. This position is designed for someone who wants to make a tangible difference daily by ensuring that residents receive nutritious, well-prepared meals that adhere to dietary guidelines and program budgets. Operating in a multi-disciplinary team environment, the Meal Prepper plays an indispensable role in creating a safe, healthy, and welcoming atmosphere through food service.
The Meal Prepper position involves preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner Monday through Friday, with potential assistance during the weekends as necessary. Responsibilities include following a four-week rotating menu plan, meeting nutritional standards, and managing food orders to ensure availability of necessary items. The role demands maintaining kitchen cleanliness and compliance with both state and public health regulations, as well as fostering positive relationships with vendors and suppliers. Employees must also ensure proper food storage, handling, and preparation to meet health code standards. Working conditions require the Meal Prepper to operate within a residential treatment center that serves adults with substance use disorders, which runs continuously throughout the year.
Ideal candidates will possess knowledge of nutrition, food preparation, and menu planning within budgetary constraints, along with a high school diploma or equivalent preferred. The job requires physical stamina, including lifting and pushing of heavy items as well as exposure to biological hazards native to the kitchen and treatment environment. In addition to culinary tasks, the role expects adherence to all health and safety regulations and includes participation in required training such as First Aid, CPR, and other health certifications.
This full-time role offers a starting wage of approximately $17.88 per hour, emphasizing a work schedule of 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday. The Meal Prepper is expected to maintain a reliable vehicle and driver certification to support certain program transportation needs, reimbursed with mileage where personal vehicles are used. Computer and technology skills are essential for managing timekeeping, scheduling, and vendor communications.
This position is an outstanding opportunity for individuals passionate about making a difference in the substance use treatment field by contributing not only through culinary expertise but also by supporting a collaborative healthcare team dedicated to recovery and wellness. Join the Helen Ross McNabb Center, where your work will be valued and directly impactful, helping improve the lives of many who face difficult challenges every day.
