Job Description

Courtyard by Marriott is a globally recognized hotel brand that caters primarily to business travelers seeking comfort, convenience, and a welcoming atmosphere during their stay. Part of the Marriott International portfolio, Courtyard focuses on providing genuine hospitality and high-quality service. The hotel on Routes 1 & 9 S in Newark, New Jersey, exemplifies these values through its modern amenities and attentive staff, catering to the needs of both business and leisure travelers with a variety of dining, accommodation, and wellness options.

The Bistro at Courtyard is a chic, fast-casual restaurant located within the hotel, offering an eclectic menu that ranges from quick to-go options to full sit-down meals, featuring a selection of cocktails, wine, beer, and Starbucks coffee. As part of this vibrant team, the Bistro Team Member plays a crucial role in delivering an exceptional food and beverage experience to guests. This full-time, non-management position offers a competitive hourly pay range of $23.94 to $26.60 and is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a dynamic, customer-focused environment.

The Bistro Team Member is responsible for mastering a broad range of food and beverage functions. These include preparing ingredients by portioning, chopping, and storing food, serving a variety of beverages including alcoholic drinks, processing orders, handling payments, and assisting in the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the food and beverage area. Additional duties include bussing and resetting tables, delivering food to guests, and ensuring compliance with all company and safety policies and procedures. Safety is a top priority, and team members are expected to report any unsafe conditions, complete mandatory safety training, and adhere to cash handling protocols.

This role demands a friendly and professional demeanor, as employees are the face of the Bistro and represent the larger Courtyard brand. Team members are expected to welcome guests warmly, anticipate their service needs, assist guests with disabilities, and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues. The position involves physical activity such as standing for extended periods and lifting objects up to 25 pounds independently or more with assistance.

No prior supervisory experience or formal certifications are required, making this an accessible opportunity for those new to the food and beverage industry or those seeking to develop their hospitality skill set. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, while previous experience in a food and beverage setting is advantageous but not mandatory.

Working at Courtyard offers more than just a job; it provides the chance to join a diverse, inclusive team committed to excellence and growth. Employees benefit from a robust package of health care, retirement plans, paid time off including sick leave, life insurance, disability coverage, and other wellness benefits, supporting both professional and personal well-being. Marriott International values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer, fostering an environment where associates from all backgrounds feel valued and empowered.

Joining the Bistro Team at Courtyard means becoming part of a global family that values teamwork, continuous learning, and providing a guest experience that goes above and beyond expectations. If you are passionate about hospitality, eager to learn, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, this role offers a rewarding pathway to grow and excel in the hospitality industry.
