The Cafe Attendant role at Java City involves the meticulous preparation of twenty-six specialty beverages, along with gourmet teas, ensuring customers receive the freshest and highest-quality products. This position demands strict adherence to coffee preparation procedures and standard recipes, emphasizing ingredient control and food safety practices. The attendant is also responsible for proper food storage, rotation, and handling to maintain freshness and avoid contamination.

Beyond beverage and food preparation, the Cafe Attendant maintains a clean and safe workplace by adhering to daily and weekly maintenance schedules for equipment and cleaning tasks. This includes correctly breaking down and setting up equipment, using proper cleaning chemicals safely, and following hospital emergency plans. Maintaining sanitation and organization in all areas, including floors, towels, and furniture, is part of daily responsibilities to create a pleasant and hygienic environment for customers and staff alike.

Cash handling is another critical aspect of this role. The Cafe Attendant operates the register efficiently and politely, ensuring accuracy and timely service. They are accountable for register overages and shortages and must deliver excellent guest relations by working cooperatively with teammates and following established customer service policies such as AIDET, which focuses on courtesy and respect.

Shift flexibility is required, including availability during mornings, weekdays, and weekends, with the physical ability to lift and transport objects up to 50 pounds. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • one year previous cash handling experience preferred
  • previous food service experience preferred
  • ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • ability to speak English sufficiently to perform job responsibilities
  • able to work a cash register
  • flexibility to rotate shifts Monday through Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm and weekends
  • some transporting of objects up to 50 lbs
  • ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance with lifting equipment or help for heavier lifting
  • subject to cuts and burns
  • various temperature conditions
  • physical ability to perform job duties safely

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • reading, writing, mathematical computation skills

Job Duties

  • Follow proper coffee procedures
  • utilize standard recipes and ingredient control
  • follow proper preparation procedures
  • prepare foods to ensure the freshest possible product to customers
  • proper food rotation first in, first out method
  • safe food storage and handling with no cross contamination, label and date all food items
  • follow daily and weekly maintenance of equipment and cleaning schedules according to established guidelines
  • break down, clean, and set-up equipment properly as demonstrated through training
  • recognize and identify proper chemicals while adhering to label warnings and MSDS instructions
  • understand and adhere to hospital emergency plans
  • keep floors free of debris
  • keep towels in sanitized water
  • keep table and chairs clean and organized
  • follow established side-work guidelines
  • be accountable for register overages and shortages
  • be polite to customers while being accurate and quick at registers
  • work closely with fellow Cafe Attendants to give great services to customers

  • treat fellow associates, managers, visitors, and patients with courtesy and respect
