Job Description

Michaels is a leading North American retail chain specializing in arts and crafts supplies, dedicated to fostering creativity and celebration for customers of all ages. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, the company operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and Canada, serving as a premier destination for crafting enthusiasts and hobbyists. Michaels offers a vast selection of products including arts and crafts materials, custom framing, floral arrangements, home décor, and seasonal merchandise, making it a go-to place for every creative project. The company prides itself on delivering a customer-centric shopping experience, providing robust support, and cultivating an environment where creativity flourishes.

The role of Event Coordinator at Michaels, located in Bend, OR, is a part-time position focused on planning, organizing, and facilitating events within the store, including children’s birthday parties and various craft classes. This role is crucial for providing an engaging, stress-free, and fun atmosphere for guests, ensuring they have memorable and creative experiences. The Event Coordinator acts as the front-facing representative during events, interacting with clients ranging from young children to older adults to foster a community centered around creativity and celebration.

Responsibilities within this role include overseeing multiple events simultaneously, educating and guiding participants through craft projects, managing event accessories like goody bags and balloons, and maintaining communication with both clients and store staff to ensure smooth operations. Administrative duties such as handling emails, phone calls, and paperwork are also essential for successful event execution. The coordinator adapts plans based on client feedback and prepares contingency plans to handle unexpected circumstances, thereby ensuring client satisfaction.

Additionally, the Event Coordinator contributes to the broader customer experience by assisting shoppers in locating products, delivering efficient and friendly checkout service, and promoting Michaels’ rewards program and credit card offerings. The position also includes operational tasks such as merchandise stocking, truck unloading, store recovery, and participation in various store maintenance and safety programs.

Ideal candidates possess energetic and enthusiastic personalities, excellent communication skills, experience working with children and children’s events, and strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Retail or customer service experience is required to succeed in this dynamic role. The physical demands of the position include standing for long periods, lifting, bending, and moving throughout the store, with some work possibly involving ladder use and outdoor tasks.

At Michaels, the wellbeing of team members is prioritized through comprehensive benefits offered to both full-time and part-time employees. These include health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision care, paid time off, tuition assistance, and attractive employee discounts. Michaels is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, welcoming individuals of all backgrounds and providing reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities. The company fosters a positive and respectful work environment, promoting commitment to its vision and values.
