Job Description
Wayside Waifs is a well-established non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of homeless pets and the people who love them in the community. Since its inception, Wayside Waifs has continually evolved to meet the needs of the community by offering a variety of compassionate programs focused on animal rescue, adoption, and community education. This organization prioritizes humane treatment, responsible pet ownership, and community involvement as core elements of its mission. Located in a vibrant area with diverse community members, Wayside Waifs actively collaborates with local organizations, volunteers, and civic leaders to foster strong partnerships and reach those most in need. As an organization committed to strategic growth and community impact, Wayside Waifs uses data-driven insights from community needs assessments to guide the development of its programs and outreach efforts. The environment at Wayside Waifs provides a blend of office and outdoor settings, supporting a flexible and engaging workplace dedicated to animal welfare and community service. As part of their commitment to inclusivity and community support, they seek dedicated individuals who are passionate about animals and community involvement to join their team in new outreach roles.
The Bilingual Community Outreach Coordinator position was created as a direct response to Wayside Waifs’ Strategic Plan and a recent Community Needs Assessment. This newly established role is fundamental in expanding Wayside Waifs’ community outreach initiatives, including Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, public vaccination clinics, pet food pantry services, and spay and neuter events. The coordinator plays a vital role in executing these programs, serving both pets and their owners effectively by bridging communication gaps and promoting awareness of available services. With an hourly wage of $21.00, this full-time role involves comprehensive responsibilities including program implementation, data collection and analysis, collaboration with community partners, volunteer coordination, and event management.
In this role, the coordinator works closely with diverse community members, organizations, and volunteers to facilitate meaningful outreach opportunities that enhance the well-being of pets and strengthen community bonds. The position requires exceptional organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple components of outreach programming simultaneously, and a non-judgmental, open-minded approach to engaging with community members. As the lead or co-lead for community events, the coordinator will oversee volunteer training, event setup and tear down, and serve as the primary point of contact for participants. Proficiency in Spanish is a key requirement, ensuring effective communication within a multilingual community and fostering trust with a broad range of community members.
This opportunity at Wayside Waifs is ideal for individuals who are passionate about animal welfare, enjoy community engagement, and have experience in outreach programming or similar environments. Additionally, the role fosters skill development in areas such as data reporting, relationship building, and volunteer management, all while promoting the organization's mission to serve the pets and people of the community. Candidates with a background or interest in animal handling or veterinary assistance are especially encouraged to apply, as hands-on support during outreach events is a valued aspect of the role. The position demands reliable transportation, willingness to work in varied weather conditions throughout the year, and comfort with using media and office equipment. Overall, the Bilingual Community Outreach Coordinator will be a key contributor to Wayside Waifs’ ongoing efforts to create a more compassionate and supportive neighborhood for all animals and their human companions.
