Job Description
Bellevue State Park, located in suburban Wilmington, Delaware, is a historic and scenic public park that was once the private estate of William Dupont Jr. The park has evolved from its origins as a duPont family horse estate to a versatile recreational area that welcomes visitors to enjoy its beautiful landscapes, walking trails, and unique amenities. Bellevue State Park features a range of facilities including a 1 1/8 mile-long horse track, rentable pavilions, community gardens, a quaint fishing pond, disc golf courses, and the iconic Bellevue Hall which stands as the centerpiece of the park. This park offers visitors various opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, disc golf, picnics, and enjoying special events throughout the year. The setting combines historical significance with modern recreational use, making the park a unique cultural and natural attraction in the Wilmington area.
The role offered is for an Event Coordinator to manage and administer the reservation and organization of special event facilities within Bellevue State Park. This is a casual and seasonal position that supports year-round events primarily focused on hosting weddings and various other special events. The Event Coordinator plays a crucial role in providing excellent customer service, facilitating seamless event operations, and ensuring visitor satisfaction while upholding park policies and maintaining professionalism. Responsibilities include handling event bookings, coordinating with event organizers, setting up and monitoring event activities, supporting cleanup efforts, and responding to visitor inquiries and park information needs. The position requires working indoors and outdoors with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as events demand.
Candidates suitable for this position should demonstrate good communication skills, responsibility, dependability, and the ability to work independently. Experience handling office operations, cash transactions, and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Excel, and Publisher is essential. The coordinator will also be involved in enforcing park rules and providing information that enhances visitor experiences. While this role is seasonal and does not offer pension benefits or health care, it provides a unique opportunity to engage with the community and gain valuable experience in event coordination within a beautiful, historically rich park environment. A valid driver's license is required along with the legal eligibility to work in the United States. The selection process includes a background check and an assessment of the applicant’s education and job experience. Bellevue State Park encourages a diverse workforce and offers accommodations for applicants with disabilities throughout the employment process. This position is vital for continuing the tradition of offering memorable and well-supported events in one of Wilmington’s treasured outdoor settings.
