Job Description

BCYF Vine St Community Center (BCYF Vine St CC) is a vital community institution located in the Roxbury neighborhood, an area celebrated for its rich diversity, vibrant culture, and unique community institutions. Roxbury is distinct from more traditional neighborhoods due to its diverse population and proximity to the largest hospital complex in the region. Established over 21 years ago, BCYF Vine St CC has grown to become a cornerstone of community life, offering an extensive array of programs and services designed to meet the needs of residents of all ages. The center is deeply embedded in the community fabric, governed by a 15-member Neighborhood Council, the majority of whom are local residents, ensuring that the center's initiatives reflect the neighborhood's needs and aspirations.

The center boasts a variety of engaging programs that cater to children, youth, and adults. These include an EEC-licensed afterschool and summer camp serving 90 to 100 children aged 6-12, providing a safe and enriching environment during out-of-school hours. BCYF Vine St also operates a Computer Center equipped with 14 workstations and offers computer classes for all age groups, supporting digital literacy and skills development. For teens, the city-wide Youth Connection Program targets youth aged 13-19, providing opportunities for growth and community engagement. Younger youth, ages 6-17, can participate in the Drop-In Program, which offers a welcoming space for recreational and social activities. The Athletic Department at the center is especially active, organizing multiple athletic leagues, tournaments, and recreational activities that promote health, teamwork, and community spirit.

In addition to serving individual residents, BCYF Vine St CC supports local schools by offering facilities for physical education and sports events, reinforcing the center’s role as a hub for community wellness and education. With a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, the center's programs are designed to address diverse interests and needs, fostering a sense of belonging among participants.

The receptionist role at BCYF Vine St CC is a key front-facing position responsible for managing the center's front desk operations. The ideal candidate will ensure a professional and welcoming atmosphere for all visitors and callers. This position requires the ability to remain calm and composed in high-traffic or fast-paced situations, as the receptionist handles inquiries, schedules appointments, and manages multiple tasks simultaneously. Sitting for extended periods while attentively overseeing front desk activities is an essential aspect of the job. Flexibility is important, as occasional after-hours or weekend shifts may be required to support the center's varied programming.

Bilingual skills are considered a plus, reflecting the center's commitment to serving a diverse community and effectively communicating with visitors and callers from various backgrounds. Strong communication skills are crucial for maintaining a friendly yet professional demeanor, while prior experience in receptionist, administrative, or customer service roles is preferred to ensure competence in handling the center's front desk responsibilities. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and other administrative tools is necessary for maintaining accurate records and managing scheduling. Organizational skills and the ability to multitask efficiently contribute to the smooth operation of the front desk and overall visitor experience. This role is not only about administrative efficiency but also about representing BCYF Vine St CC's welcoming spirit and commitment to community engagement.
