Job Description
The Peoria Civic Center is a prominent entertainment and convention venue located in Peoria, Illinois. It hosts a diverse range of events including concerts, theatrical performances, conventions, sporting events, and community gatherings. As a hub for entertainment and business functions, the Peoria Civic Center plays a vital role in the cultural and economic life of the region, attracting both local residents and visitors. This facility is managed by Legends Global, a company known for its professional event management and exceptional customer service standards.
The Peoria Civic Center is currently seeking a part-time Bartender to join the Food & Beverage Department. Reporting to the Assistant Food & Beverage Manager, this hourly non-exempt role offers a starting wage of $16.50 per hour plus tips. The position is designed for individuals passionate about delivering outstanding customer service while managing beverage sales during various events held in the arena, theater, and convention spaces. Bartenders play a critical role in providing a positive and memorable experience for guests by preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, ensuring compliance with all safety and operational standards, and maintaining an organized and sanitized work environment.
This role requires bartenders to project a positive image of the Peoria Civic Center by maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor. They must be punctual, coming prepared and dressed in the required uniform, ready to engage with and serve guests efficiently. Bartenders will greet patrons, answer questions in a courteous manner, and serve drinks in accordance with company policies to ensure customer satisfaction and legal compliance. Responsibilities also include the preparation of garnishes and specialty beverages, assisting with the setup and breakdown of event spaces, and adhering to operational procedures like sanitation, safety, and inventory management.
In addition to beverage service, bartenders will communicate regularly with colleagues across food and beverage teams to ensure seamless service delivery and address any guest concerns professionally. While this role does not have supervisory responsibilities, it does involve training new staff when assigned and requires adherence to strict company standards in all operational aspects.
Ideal candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED and have prior bartending experience along with cash register proficiency preferred but not mandatory. Strong English communication skills, multitasking ability, and capacity to work under pressure with professionalism are essential. Additionally, bartenders should be capable of acquiring and maintaining required state bartending licenses and food service certifications such as BASSET. Flexibility in scheduling is crucial due to the nature of event operations, with work hours spanning evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying weekly shifts.
Working conditions involve physical demands such as moving throughout the facility, walking long distances, climbing stairs, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds on occasion. The Peoria Civic Center is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals. Benefits offered include paid leave and flexible scheduling to support a healthy work-life balance.
This position is perfect for individuals seeking a dynamic, customer-focused role in a busy event venue environment where excellent communication, teamwork, and service skills are highly valued. Joining the team at the Peoria Civic Center offers the opportunity to be part of a vibrant community-oriented organization with steady work and the potential to earn attractive tips alongside competitive hourly pay.
