Job Description
West Sixth Brewing is a renowned craft brewery and taproom based in downtown Lexington, KY. Founded with a passion for brewing high-quality craft beer, the company has grown to become a beloved brand across Kentucky. It distributes its beers to various restaurants and bars throughout the state and participates in pop-up events spanning from Paducah to Pikeville, ensuring that diverse communities experience their flavorful brews. West Sixth Brewing operates several taprooms including the original production facility located in the Bread Box at 501 West Sixth Street, a NuLu taproom in downtown Louisville, the West Sixth Farm in Franklin County, and the newly opened West Sixth CovHaus in Covington. Beyond beer, the company has expanded its offerings to include private events and catering services at these locations, alongside kitchens at the NuLu taproom (the Galley) and the Farm taproom (West Sixth Cantina).
The brewery emphasizes strong community ties and sustainability, dedicating 6% of all net profits back to community organizations through the Sixth for a Cause Foundation. Their commitment to environmentally conscious practices is reflected in green design choices in their taprooms and sustainable packaging decisions. Working at West Sixth Brewing means being part of a culture that values taking care of people and celebrating moments—whether those are major life milestones or ordinary afternoons with a well-crafted, locally made beer.
The role offered is for a part-time bartender at the NuLu taproom, offering between 10 to 20 hours of work per week. This position is pivotal as the taprooms are both a critical source of revenue and the first point of experience for many customers. The company firmly believes that delivering a fantastic customer experience is paramount. The NuLu taproom is a spacious, welcoming environment that serves high-quality beers brewed both at the Lexington facility and on-site in Louisville. It hosts various community pop-ups, private events in dedicated event spaces, and daily service, making it a vibrant hub of activity.
This bartender role seeks individuals who are enthusiastic hosts, eager to make guests feel truly welcome and cared for. The successful candidate will bring joy and creativity to their role, connecting with customers and collaboratively working with their team to consistently deliver excellent service. Responsibilities include recommending and pouring beers, guiding customers through beer flights, bussing tables, washing dishes, and engaging with customers about their experiences. An interest in craft beer is essential, with training available for those newer to beer culture.
The position requires flexibility, especially with nights and weekends prioritized to help manage busy times like Fridays and Saturdays. Effective teamwork, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude are crucial for success in this dynamic environment. Louisvillle-based bartenders report to the Retail Manager, and clear communication via in-person interactions and digital platforms like Slack and email is expected to stay informed about events and operational updates.
West Sixth Brewing offers an inclusive workplace where multiple roles and hats are embraced, valuing team players excited about building a thriving business in the long term. This position combines a love of craft beer with the opportunity to be part of a community-focused and environmentally conscious brand that prioritizes both customer experiences and employee well-being.
