Job Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent experiences
  • Minimum two years bartending or related work
  • Must be able to obtain any required food handling or alcohol serving certifications required by local or state agencies
  • Hotel/resort experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Portland and surrounding areas, highly desirable, however not required
  • Must be able to be on feet for entire shift and communicate with guests appropriately and effectively
  • Above and beyond attitude is required as well as a flexible schedule with ability to work weekends/holidays and evenings
  • Works in a careful and meticulous nature
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a high volume and demanding environment
  • Strong interpersonal and team player skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to handle difficult situations and guests
  • All applicants must have the proper legal documents to work in the United States

Job Duties

  • Prepare and serve a selection of wines, spirits, and mixed drinks from the menu while ensuring proper pouring, mixing, and blending according to established recipes and established Longfellow Standards
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of all alcoholic and non-alcoholic ingredients and drinks/food to answer questions and accommodate off-menu requests
  • Building rapport with the guest with above and beyond service
  • Anticipate guest needs, ascertain satisfaction, and offer suggestions, and respond urgently and appropriately to guest concerns and requests
  • Service and take orders from guests seated at the bar area offering interesting, and vivid descriptions of each item's, origin, taste, and preparation methods
  • maintain a working knowledge of liquors, wines, beers, ports, specialty drinks and food menus
  • Assist with set-up and cleaning of operational areas
  • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by management
  • Comply with Longfellow and SLH workplace rules and standards of conduct
