The role offered by Sonesta International Hotels is that of a Bartender, a key position responsible for enhancing guest satisfaction through exceptional beverage service in accordance with the hotel’s high standards. This is a full-time employment opportunity with a competitive pay range between $20.70 and $23.00 per hour, with the final offer being influenced by the candidate's knowledge, skills, and related experience. In this role, the bartender is expected to have comprehensive knowledge of the menu items, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as light food offerings. They must be proficient in preparing, presenting, and serving beverages like wine, champagne, beer, and cocktails while maintaining proper cleanliness and stock levels of the bar area and equipment.

Responsibilities include managing the bar’s day-to-day operations, from completing opening duties and inventory checks to ensuring all supplies are adequately stocked and the environment adheres to sanitary standards. The bartender handles all financial aspects related to the bar, such as securing assigned funds and facilitating accurate transactions. Guest interaction is a core element of the role, requiring excellent communication skills, the ability to suggest upselling options effectively, and the capacity to anticipate and meet guest needs promptly. Additionally, the bartender must be knowledgeable about all hotel services and local attractions to provide helpful and courteous assistance to guests. The role also involves managing guest concerns diplomatically using established procedures to maintain positive relations and ensure customer satisfaction.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience as a bartender or in a similar role
  • Knowledge of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and their preparation
  • Ability to use bar equipment safely
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle cash and maintain financial accuracy
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Complete knowledge of all menu items, liquor brands, beer and non-alcoholic selections available respective prices
  • Knowledge of the particular characteristics and description of every wine/champagne by the glass and major wines on the wine list
  • Complete knowledge of designated glassware, ingredients, preparation method and garnishes for each drink
  • Complete knowledge of table/seat/station numbers, room capacity, hours of operation for the bar
  • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment
  • Obtain assigned bank and ensure accuracy of contracted monies
  • Keep bank secure at all times
  • Obtain outlet keys from security
  • Complete opening side duties
  • Check quality amount of all bar stock and supplies by using checklist
  • Complete opening inventory sheet
  • Requisition all necessary supplies
  • Transport supplies from storeroom to bar
  • Stock ice in bar
  • Set up bottles in display cabinet and speed rail
  • Prepare garnishes
  • Stock glassware and paper supplies
  • Prepare mixes
  • Check condition and cleanliness of blender, shaker and other tools
  • Check temperature of refrigeration units and glass wash machine
  • Change date on credit card imprinter at opening shift
  • Inspect cleanliness and condition of bar, guest and service areas
  • rectify any deficiencies
  • Greet guests and take their orders (food and beverage), utilizing suggestive/upselling techniques
  • Call orders into Room Service
  • Ensure that all drink orders from servers are accurately rung into the P.O.S. system before giving drinks to them
  • Prepare all drink orders for guests according to outlet recipes
  • Serve drinks to guests
  • Open and serve wine/champagne bottles
  • Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly and acknowledge guests even when busy
  • Maintain positive guest relations
  • Be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond accurately to any guest inquiry
  • Handle guest complaints following the six step procedures and ensuring guest satisfaction
  • Answer outlet telephone within 3 rings, using correct greeting and telephone etiquette
