The Bartender role at 21c Museum Hotels is essential in delivering this one-of-a-kind experience by providing exceptional beverage service within their chef-driven restaurants and bars. Reporting to the Beverage Manager and Food & Beverage Director, the Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality beverages with accuracy, efficiency, and friendliness, ensuring every guest receives premium service. This role is well-suited for individuals who thrive in fast-paced, guest-oriented environments and possess a strong passion for beverage knowledge and hospitality. The position requires adherence to all service standards, including knowledge of cocktails, wines, specialty drinks, and beer offerings, with an emphasis on responsible service and excellent customer engagement.

The Bartender will master the preparation of drinks according to standardized recipes, utilize proper glassware and garnishes, and maintain a thorough understanding of the wine list including wines by the glass and a diverse range of wine categories. They must be familiar with specialty beverages such as single malt scotches and cognacs, and proficient in describing menu items from both the bar and dining room menus. Inventory management is a critical aspect of the role, with daily stock level checks and inventory reporting to ensure seamless operation. Physical stamina is required, including the ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds. The position demands a punctual, dependable, and professional individual who embodies 21c’s enthusiasm for art, culture, and sophisticated beverage service.

Job Duties

  • Follow all steps of service
  • Provide superior service behind the bar by preparing drinks according to recipe standards
  • Know drink names, ingredients, method of preparation, appropriate glassware, and garnishes
  • Know all wines by the glass and at least five wines in each category on the wine list in varying price ranges and styles
  • Know specialty beverages such as single malt scotches, cognacs, specialty drinks, and beer lists
  • Know all menu descriptions of the bar and dining room menus
  • Ensure all stock is up to par levels
  • Complete daily inventory and inform servers, managers, and bar back of any changes
  • Verify that all guests are at least 21 years of age
  • Provide prompt, accurate report of all income received during shift
  • Sell beverages responsibly with the customer’s best interest in mind
  • Maintain smooth flow of service between bar and server requests
  • Complete all side work as outlined in the manual
  • Report to work on time and ready to work scheduled shifts
  • Maintain a positive, friendly attitude with co-workers and guests
  • Maintain a clean, orderly appearance in the restaurant service area
  • Assist with or execute any tasks as assigned by the supervisor
  • Follow all proper sanitation guidelines
