Job Description
Colonial Downs Group (CDG) is a prominent entertainment and gaming company owned and operated by Churchill Downs Incorporated, a globally recognized leader in the horse racing and gaming industries. CDG encompasses several well-known brands throughout Virginia, including Colonial Downs Racetrack, Rosie's Gaming Emporium, Rosie's Game Room, and Virginia Horseplay. These brands come together to offer a dynamic environment filled with excitement and opportunities for guests and employees alike. Committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming workplace, CDG values diverse perspectives and innovative approaches, recognizing that diversity is a key driver of excellence. The organization prides itself on continuous learning and growth, emphasizing collaboration and mutual respect among its team members. These core values create an inspiring and motivating atmosphere that advances both individual and organizational goals.
The role currently available is for a Bartender at Colonial Downs Group. This position plays a critical role in delivering exceptional guest service by preparing a variety of cocktails and beverages for both guests and servers. As a Bartender, you will engage directly with guests, ensuring they have an enjoyable experience by providing prompt and courteous service. The role demands a mix of technical skills and interpersonal abilities, as you will be responsible for taking beverage orders, verifying guest ages to comply with legal requirements, and promoting the various brands and products offered at CDG. Preparation of drinks must adhere to specific recipes and company standards to maintain quality and consistency.
In addition to serving beverages, the Bartender will maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the bar area, ensure compliance with health department regulations, and assist with inventory control, including stocking and proper product rotation. Accuracy in handling monetary transactions is essential, requiring proficiency with point-of-sale systems and cash management. This role also involves responsible alcohol service practices to manage guest consumption safely. The Bartender must uphold knowledge of all menu items, applicable laws, and company policies regarding drink preparation and storage.
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with one to three months of related experience or training in mixing alcoholic beverages preferred. Certification such as Serv-Safe and a valid racing license are mandatory and must be maintained throughout employment. Physically, the role demands standing for the duration of shifts, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, and adapting to potentially loud and crowded working environments. Flexibility in working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is necessary given the nature of the entertainment and gaming industry. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in fast-paced settings, possess strong attention to detail, and display excellent guest service skills. Joining Colonial Downs Group offers an opportunity to be part of a respected organization with a rich heritage and a forward-thinking approach to employee development and guest engagement.
