The Laguna Playhouse is a nationally acclaimed, non-profit, professional theatre situated just steps away from the Pacific Ocean in the picturesque arts colony of Laguna Beach, California. Established as a cornerstone of cultural and artistic expression in the community, the Playhouse has built a reputation for producing diverse, high-quality stage productions that attract audiences from across the nation. As a vibrant and growing non-profit organization, the Laguna Playhouse values creativity, inclusivity, and a dedication to fostering an equitable artistic environment. Its commitment extends beyond exceptional theatrical experiences to nurturing a welcoming atmosphere where individuality and collaboration thrive. The theatre is noted for its forward-thinking approach, embracing diversity and encouraging participation from underrepresented populations including Black, Indigenous, People of Color, women, transgender, and non-binary candidates, ensuring that the performing arts community it represents is as diverse as the audiences it serves.

The role of the Bartender at the Laguna Playhouse is integral to enhancing the patron experience at the theatre’s front-of-house operations. This part-time, non-exempt position reports directly to the House Manager and involves working a flexible schedule that primarily includes nights, weekends, and some afternoons based on the show schedule. The Bartender will work up to eight shows per week, providing exceptional service to theatre guests by preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages efficiently and professionally. Compensation for this role is $18.25 per hour plus tips, making it an attractive opportunity for individuals seeking part-time work in a dynamic, artistic environment.

The Bartender's responsibilities encompass maintaining a clean and sanitary bar area, handling cash and electronic transactions accurately via a computerized POS system, and adhering strictly to state and federal liquor laws, especially regarding the verification of guest age and responsible service. The ideal candidate is at least 21 years of age with a minimum of one year of front-of-house experience in a fast-paced, high-volume bar or restaurant setting. They must possess basic knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits, and have the ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks within set timeframes. Dependability, a positive attitude, and strong interpersonal skills to engage patrons warmly and professionally are essential qualities.

The Laguna Playhouse fosters a warm, welcoming, and creatively fulfilling environment that is dog friendly, making it a unique workplace for applicants passionate about the arts and community engagement. Employees benefit not only from a competitive hourly wage and earnings from tips but also from working in a culturally rich setting that supports personal and professional growth. The theatre maintains a strong commitment to health and safety standards, including vaccination requirements, to ensure the wellbeing of staff and patrons alike.

Applicants are encouraged to submit a cover letter and resume to the Human Resources department, highlighting their relevant experience and enthusiasm for contributing to the success of this acclaimed theatre. This position offers an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking to be part of a community-oriented, multi-faceted arts institution nestled in one of Southern California’s most beloved coastal towns.
