Job Description

Out West Restaurant Group is the largest franchisee of Outback Steakhouse in the United States. Outback Steakhouse is a renowned Australian-themed casual dining restaurant that first opened in March 1988. Known for its uniquely fun approach to dining, Outback Steakhouse is committed to delivering high-quality food and an enjoyable customer experience. The company prioritizes treating each customer like a guest in their own home and fosters a culture of respect, camaraderie, and enthusiasm among its team members, known as "Outbackers." Out West Restaurant Group exemplifies these values and aims to positively impact the lives of its employees by providing excellent training, support, and advancement opportunities. The group is an equal opportunity employer committed to fairness, respect, and opportunity for all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected status. It has been recognized as a top franchisee in the U.S., receiving accolades such as the Monitor 200 Award for ranking in the top 50 franchisees for four consecutive years and the International Franchise Association’s Franchisee of the Year award in 2022 for outstanding community service. Out West Restaurant Group is also proud to support local non-profit organizations that assist restaurant employees and their families during difficult times. Employment with the group is at-will and compliant with all applicable California wage and hour laws, as well as pay equality standards.

This particular role is an hourly, non-exempt bartender position within the Outback Steakhouse brand under the Out West Restaurant Group umbrella. Earning a competitive wage of $16.90 per hour plus tips, the role offers a chance to join a fun and supportive work environment with varied scheduling options to accommodate life and ensure excellent guest service. Bartenders at Outback Steakhouse are essential to creating a memorable customer experience by providing friendly, prompt, and attentive service tailored to each guest’s preferences. The bartender is responsible not only for crafting beverages safely and consistently according to recipes and standards but also for mastering extensive knowledge of the food and drink menu to recommend and upsell items effectively. Teamwork is deeply valued, and bartenders are expected to support all restaurant areas as needed and offer expertise and assistance to servers in beverage selections. Adherence to food safety, cleanliness, job safety, and sanitation standards is mandatory.

The role requires candidates to be at least 21 years old, capable of performing physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 30 pounds, standing or walking for extended shifts of up to 8 hours, and operating in hot, cold, and low-light environments. Candidates must demonstrate manual dexterity suitable for handling glassware, utensils, and technology systems, and possess the ability to move quickly in a fast-paced setting. Responsible Beverage Service certifications specific to California are required but can be completed during the training period. The company provides reasonable accommodations according to applicable laws to support employees in fulfilling their job duties.

Employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision services for those eligible under ACA rules, paid sick leave compliant with California statutes, meal discounts, and access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The corporate culture supports personal and professional growth with training and advancement opportunities, including a shift leader program offering extensive on-the-job training. Notably, Outback Steakhouse is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas to allow their team time to enjoy those holidays with family and friends.

Joining the Outback 'family' means becoming part of a hospitable culture that values hard work, perseverance, and leadership while offering an environment where employees can have fun, build a rewarding career path, and make a difference in guests’ dining experiences. Those looking for a dynamic role in the restaurant industry with ample support and benefits will find this bartender position an excellent opportunity for growth and fulfillment.
