The role of Campus Retail Associate is integral to the overall success of Barnes & Noble College’s retail operations. This position involves multiple facets of retail activity including managing sales transactions, engaging customers with a welcoming and helpful attitude, supporting store organization, and maintaining the store’s appealing and efficient operation. The associate will handle critical duties such as cash handling, inventory stocking, cleaning, and food preparation, ensuring all activities meet prescribed standards of quality and safety. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Able to work flexible hours including weekends, openings, and closings
  • Ability to stand or remain stationary for extended periods
  • Capability to perform frequent lifting and physical tasks such as reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders
  • Ability to operate retail equipment and cash registers
  • Commitment to follow health, safety, and sanitation standards
  • Willingness to maintain cleanliness and order within the store environment

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 16 years of age for temporary employment
  • Previous food handling experience preferred
  • Confident and comfortable engaging customers to deliver an elevated experience
  • An outstanding attitude with the willingness to learn and the capability to excel in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Basic math, keyboarding, and data entry skills
  • Flexible availability throughout the academic year including peak periods

Job Duties

  • Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments
  • Provide a friendly atmosphere by greeting customers and focusing on their positive experience throughout their visit
  • Take initiative to support store operations including operating equipment and cash register while ensuring speed of service and accurate transactions
  • Keep the store looking fresh by shelving, arranging, cleaning, and organizing products or space within the store
  • Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold food and drinks following prescribed recipes and techniques
  • Set up or restock displays, wrap, label, date, and rotate food items for sale
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following cleaning, sanitation, and operational standards
  • Routine housekeeping including dusting, mopping, window cleaning, vacuuming, trash removal
