Job Description
Sanford Health stands as the largest rural health system in the United States, deeply committed to revolutionizing the healthcare experience and ensuring access to premier healthcare services throughout America's heartland. With a strong foundation and extensive reach, Sanford Health offers a wide range of medical services, resources, and support systems geared toward enhancing patient care, improving health outcomes, and fostering community wellness. The organization values innovation, compassion, and excellence, striving to maintain an environment where patients receive attentive, personalized care in both urban and rural settings.
The role of Food Service Assistant within Sanford Health is integral to supporting the overall healthcare environment by attending to the nutritional and dietary needs of patients, visitors, and staff. This position operates under varying work shifts across the United States and offers a competitive salary range between $15.00 and $22.50 per hour, depending on experience and location. The Food Service Assistant plays a vital part in maintaining the quality and safety of food services, contributing directly to the health and satisfaction of those served within the medical facility.
Responsible for monitoring and recording food temperatures to meet safety standards, setting up and maintaining clean serving areas, and preparing and serving food items, the Food Service Assistant ensures compliance with Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines. This role requires keen attention to detail and dedication to maintaining sanitation standards, including cleaning equipment, restocking food supplies, and efficiently handling transactions via computerized registers. Emphasizing outstanding customer service, the assistant communicates effectively with patrons and co-workers and fosters positive working relationships.
This position also demands the ability to operate a variety of equipment such as grills, beverage machines, toasters, ice cream dispensers, and dishwashers, demonstrating versatility and adaptability in the fast-paced food service environment of a healthcare setting. Candidates should ideally have previous experience in the food industry and possess a thorough understanding of food safety and sanitation processes. Physical stamina is necessary, as the role involves standing for extended periods and walking considerable distances throughout the shift.
The Food Service Assistant at Sanford Health is an opportunity for individuals seeking to contribute to a respected rural health system while developing valuable skills in food service and customer engagement within a healthcare context. On-the-job training supports new employees in adopting best practices and integrating smoothly into the team. Depending on the hiring location, certifications such as ServSafe or Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required within a designated timeframe to meet compliance and safety standards.
Sanford Health promotes equal employment opportunity and is dedicated to inclusive hiring practices, welcoming applicants from diverse backgrounds including individuals with disabilities. The organization ensures accommodations are available for candidates requiring assistance with the application process. By joining Sanford Health as a Food Service Assistant, employees become part of a mission-driven organization committed to enhancing healthcare for rural communities and delivering exceptional service every day.
