Job Description

Indiana University Health is Indiana's most comprehensive health system, consisting of 15 hospitals and nearly 40,000 team members dedicated to serving the diverse healthcare needs of Hoosiers across the state. With a strong partnership with the Indiana University School of Medicine, the organization offers its team access to the latest scientific advancements and the best training opportunities, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high standards in patient care and support services. Indiana University Health prides itself on its inclusive work environment, equal employment opportunity policies, and commitment to accommodating individuals with disabilities to ensure everyone has the chance to contribute meaningfully to its mission. The institution is deeply rooted in community service, aiming to provide compassionate, purpose-driven care that seeks to improve the health outcomes of its patients and the communities it serves.

The Barista position at Indiana University Health is a full-time role with a schedule of 36 hours per week, operating from 6am to 3pm, and includes a rotating weekend requirement. This position plays a vital role in delivering exceptional food and beverage services to a wide-ranging customer base that includes patients, family members, physicians, staff, and visitors. The barista is responsible for preparing, plating, serving, and transporting food and beverages while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction through quick, accurate, and courteous service. Key responsibilities focus on the preparation and serving of coffee and other beverages alongside food items, maintaining hygiene and cleanliness standards in compliance with food safety regulations. The role also involves the use of various food service and computer equipment, requiring employees to have a foundational understanding of food safety, infection control, and sanitation practices to uphold safety standards at all times.

Furthermore, the barista must demonstrate physical stamina to stand or walk for extended periods and perform certain physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and kneeling. While food service experience is required, there is a preference for candidates with a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience. Basic computer skills, including familiarity with the CBORD system, are preferred to support the operational responsibilities associated with the role. Certification or training in food safety, such as Serve Safe or ISDOH Food Handler certification under Title 410 IAC 7-22, may be necessary depending on location. Indiana University Health welcomes a diverse range of applicants who are dedicated to excellence in service, collaborative teamwork, and creating a supportive and valued customer experience in the healthcare environment.
