The Food Service Worker role at Indiana University Health is integral to maintaining high standards of food preparation, service, and customer satisfaction within the hospital environment. This position is scheduled at 36 hours per week, primarily from 6am to 3pm, with a rotating weekend requirement, supporting the continuous operation of the health system's food service departments. The individual in this role is responsible for preparing, plating, serving, and transporting food and beverages to a diverse clientele including patients, family members, physicians, other hospital employees, and the public. Providing courteous, quick, and accurate service is essential to this position, as is the prompt resolution of any customer concerns that may arise. Food safety and sanitation are paramount responsibilities, requiring adherence to infection control practices and comprehensive sanitation standards to ensure the well-being of all individuals served. The role involves operating various kinds of food service and computer equipment, specifically serving coffee and other beverages alongside food preparation and presentation.

Candidates for this position must bring previous food service experience and demonstrate knowledge of basic food safety, infection control, and sanitation protocols. Certifications such as ServSafe or ISDOH Food Handler under Title 410 IAC 7-22 may be required depending on location. Additionally, the role demands basic computer proficiency, especially familiarity with the CBORD system relevant to service tasks. Physical requirements include the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, as well as lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and kneeling as part of daily responsibilities.
