Job Description

Groundwork Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster and retailer with deep roots in Southern California since 1990. Beginning as a small rare book store and cafe, Groundwork has grown into one of the most respected names in organic coffee roasting and sustainable coffee sourcing. Pioneering the move towards fair trade and organic coffee, Groundwork is the largest organic coffee roaster in Los Angeles, with fourteen cafes across the West Coast and bustling roasteries in both Los Angeles and Portland. Our commitment to sustainable business practices means that we work directly with growers and importers who prioritize responsible production methods, ensuring that each cup of coffee or tea served not only tastes excellent but also supports ethical farming and trade practices.

At Groundwork Coffee, we take pride in offering an artisanal range of batch-roasted coffees and organic teas, including our highly popular cold brew coffee line. Our emphasis on community, quality, and sustainability drives everything we do, from sourcing beans to creating memorable customer experiences. More than just a coffee brand, Groundwork is a local pioneer and a community staple deeply invested in promoting organic agriculture and fair trade principles.

We are seeking an outgoing, energetic, and community-focused Barista to join our vibrant team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about specialty coffee and tea, aiming to develop their skills within a dynamic third wave cafe environment. As a Groundwork Barista, you will gain experience with manual espresso equipment and become well-versed in our range of certified organic products. You will be responsible for crafting high-quality beverages that meet our exacting brand standards while delivering exceptional customer service.

The position requires a strong customer-oriented attitude paired with a willingness to learn and improve continuously. Working as part of a team, you will interact with customers daily, educating them about our coffee and tea offerings and fostering a welcoming atmosphere. This role offers exposure to cafe operations, including product maintenance, sanitation, cash handling, and health and safety adherence, such as ServSafe practices. We value team players who are independent thinkers, able to make good decisions in the absence of supervision, and who demonstrate a keen attention to detail.

In return, Groundwork offers a supportive and caffeinated work environment where your enthusiasm for coffee and community can thrive. Join a company that not only serves some of the best coffee around but also believes in supporting each employee's personal and professional growth. Whether you are looking to jump-start your career or deepen your existing expertise in a fun and engaging setting, this role presents the perfect blend of challenge and opportunity. If you’re excited about coffee culture and eager to contribute to a company with strong values and a lasting local impact, we encourage you to apply today.
