Job Description

Barnes & Noble is a renowned bookstore chain that thrives as a vibrant community hub for readers and book lovers. Established as a pivotal destination for literature enthusiasts, Barnes & Noble is known for its extensive collection of books and an inviting atmosphere where customers can explore, learn, and connect. Alongside their bookselling expertise, these stores offer inviting café spaces where patrons can enjoy a variety of beverages and fresh bakery items, making it a perfect combination of retail and hospitality.

The company fosters a warm, inclusive environment emphasizing exceptional customer service and a commitment to the community it serves. As part of its dedication to providing excellent service, Barnes & Noble continually invests in creating a positive employee culture where team members are valued and supported in their professional growth.

The role of the Barista at Barnes & Noble is crucial to maintaining the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of the café section within the bookstore. As a Barista, you will become an integral part of the team, ensuring that every customer is greeted cheerfully and provided with personalized recommendations about the beverage menu and café offerings. Your expertise in preparing coffee, beverages, and bakery items will enhance the customer experience, making each visit to Barnes & Noble memorable.

In addition to preparing drinks and serving customers, the Barista is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and attractive presentation of the café area. This includes unpacking and stocking deliveries, tidying the bakes case and dining area, and operating registers efficiently to ensure fast, friendly service. Customer interaction is a key component of the Barista role, where going above and beyond to help and engage with patrons is expected.

Success in this position depends on exhibiting positive behaviors such as reliable attendance, flexibility in work schedules, a supportive team-oriented mindset, and a genuine enjoyment of being a Barista. You will receive comprehensive training to master various operational skills including the use of technology like registers and tablets, effective visual merchandising to maintain an appealing café environment, accurate and efficient food and beverage preparation following company guidelines, and understanding health and safety protocols.

The role requires physical stamina, including prolonged standing, bending, lifting, and walking throughout the shift. Growth within the position offers the chance to deepen your knowledge of café products across beverages, bakery, and savory items, and to advance to senior roles with increased responsibility.

Barnes & Noble also offers a flexible benefits package that varies depending on the number of hours worked per week, including employee discounts, paid time off, comprehensive health insurance, 401(k) matching, tuition reimbursement, and more, fully supporting employee well-being and professional development.
