The role of Part-Time Barista at New York Institute of Technology’s Long Island campus is an integral part of the Division of Campus Dining. This position is perfect for someone passionate about coffee culture, customer service, and working in a vibrant university setting. The barista will be entrusted with preparing and serving high-quality Starbucks beverages following specific recipes, ensuring that each drink meets the brand’s renowned standards and is delivered in a timely manner. Preparing the coffee bar for daily operation, maintaining and cleaning critical coffee equipment such as espresso machines, cold brew machines, and coffee brewers, and managing inventory and supplies are essential aspects of this role.

Beyond coffee preparation, the barista will uphold high standards of customer service by warmly greeting visitors, delivering efficient service, and responding thoughtfully to customer feedback. This position also involves assisting with the upkeep and replenishment of 'grab-and-go' food items, maintaining the salad bar station, and supporting cooks by setting up, stocking, and serving food. A significant focus is placed on maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the dining facility, adhering to Nassau County Sanitation Guidelines, which includes regular cleaning tasks, waste disposal, and ensuring food safety practices are followed rigorously. The barista must be flexible, capable of working in various campus dining locations such as cafes, kiosks, food trucks, and special events, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Candidates for this position should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, excellent communication and customer service skills, basic mathematical proficiency, and advanced computer knowledge including familiarity with Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel. Physical demands include prolonged standing and occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds. NYIT values diversity and equality and is an Equal Opportunity Employer, affirming that all qualified candidates will receive fair consideration regardless of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or veteran status. The hourly salary for this part-time position is set at $23.00, providing competitive compensation reflective of the responsibilities and expectations involved.

Working at NYIT gives an individual an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic educational environment while enhancing their skills in food service and customer care. The barista role is suited for those who thrive in a multifaceted setting where teamwork, attention to detail, and customer interaction are paramount.
