Job Description
Avera McKennan Hospital is a renowned healthcare facility committed to delivering exceptional medical services and compassionate care to its patients. Part of the larger Avera Health system, the hospital emphasizes community wellness and strives to advance health through innovative treatments and dedicated healthcare professionals. With a strong mission to move health forward, Avera McKennan Hospital fosters a supportive and inclusive work environment where employees are valued and encouraged to grow professionally.
The current opportunity is for the position of a PRN Barista within the Food Service department at Avera McKennan Hospital. This PRN, or as-needed, position primarily involves preparing a variety of hot and cold coffee beverages to the high standards set by Food and Nutrition Services. The role also entails some food preparation and cooking for the hospital's retail area, as well as assisting with catering services and managing the Doctor's Lounge. This position is ideal for individuals with barista experience who are comfortable working flexible hours, including day, weekend, and holiday shifts as departmental needs dictate.
The work schedule typically follows a Monday to Friday routine from 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM, with shifts arranged in a rotational pattern across the weeks (such as M-W-F one week and T-Th the next). While this position does not come with benefits, it offers an hourly pay range between $17.50 and $21.50, with the actual rate being dependent on experience. Employees in this PRN role must work a minimum of 36 hours per quarter, equating to roughly four months of work. The role is essential in maintaining the food and beverage services that support the hospital’s operations and patient care teams, ensuring quality, sanitation, efficiency, and excellent customer service.
As a PRN Barista at Avera McKennan Hospital, you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team that upholds Avera's core values: compassion, hospitality, and stewardship. You will deliver excellent service using approved scripts developed by Food and Nutrition Services, manage daily cleaning routines, handle cash accurately, and provide recommendations for menu improvements. This dynamic role requires someone who is attentive to detail, enthusiastic about working in a healthcare setting, and committed to upholding high standards in food safety and customer interactions. The position demands adequate visual acuity and communication skills to effectively engage with coworkers and customers alike.
Joining Avera means becoming part of a community-focused organization that values each employee's contribution. The organization is committed to diversity and encourages applicants from varied backgrounds to apply, providing equitable opportunities for all. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities, ensuring an accessible and supportive work environment. This role offers a unique chance for those interested in food service within a medical setting to combine their love for coffee and hospitality with a meaningful mission to support healthcare professionals and patients alike.
