The Barista role at the Ala Moana Hotel is within the prestigious Starbucks department, known for its specialty coffee and exceptional customer service. This role is ideal for those passionate about coffee culture and who thrive in fast-paced, customer-facing environments. The Barista will be responsible for preparing and serving a variety of hot and cold beverages including specialty coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees, and teas. In addition to beverage preparation, the role includes serving food items such as sandwiches, salads, and baked goods including muffins, scones, and croissants. A key component of the role is delivering legendary customer service by putting customers first, engaging with them to understand their needs, and creating a positive, welcoming environment often described as the "Third Place" beyond home and work.

This position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team to maintain operational excellence and meet the high standards of Starbucks and Ala Moana Hotel. The Barista must also be adept at maintaining cleanliness and sanitation, handling cash and payments accurately, managing inventory and stock, and contributing to product displays and promotions. Critical to the role is following health and safety guidelines and upholding Starbucks operational policies to ensure a safe and pleasant workplace for customers and colleagues alike. The salary for this position ranges from $27.55 to $34.44 per hour, based on experience, knowledge, and skills, complemented by a competitive benefits package. Job Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year barista and or equivalent work experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Barista certification
  • Honolulu liquor card
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of the retail environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and build relationships

Job Duties

  • Prepare or serve hot or cold beverages such as coffee espresso drinks blended coffees or teas
  • Prepare or serve menu items such as sandwiches or salads
  • Serve prepared foods such as muffins bagels scones croissants etc
  • Weigh grind or pack coffee beans for customers
  • Take customer orders and convey them to other employees for preparation
  • Receive and process customer payments
  • Provide customers with product details such as coffee blend or preparation descriptions
  • Describe menu items to customers or suggest products that might appeal to them
  • Clean or sanitize work areas utensils or equipment
  • Wash dishes
  • Check temperatures of freezers refrigerators or heating equipment to ensure proper functioning
  • Wrap label or date food items for sale
  • Stock customer service stations with paper products or beverage preparation items
  • Order receive or stock supplies or retail products
  • Create signs to advertise store products or events
  • Set up or restock product displays
