Job Description

This job opening is for the position of Barista at the Arnold Hall, Polaris Perk Coffee Shop located on the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado. The Arnold Hall Polaris Perk Coffee Shop is a specialty coffee service operation providing high-quality coffee beverages and customer service to the Air Force Academy community as well as visitors. This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF), meaning it is funded through revenues generated by the facility rather than federal appropriations. Job Requirements

  • Experience in specialty coffee preparation or similar activity
  • knowledge of coffee drink recipes and coffee beans and teas served at specialty coffee operations
  • ability to safely use espresso machines
  • ability to memorize specialty coffee drink recipes
  • ability to hear and follow instructions
  • capability to lift objects up to 40 pounds frequently
  • ability to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods
  • ability to obtain Food Handler's Certificate or complete food handler's training
  • satisfactory completion of pre-employment physical
  • satisfactory completion of Tier 1 background investigation

Job Qualifications

  • Must have knowledge of methods and procedures related to specialty coffee preparation
  • knowledge of coffee drink recipes and typical coffee beans and teas served
  • ability to safely operate espresso machines and other coffee equipment
  • ability to memorize specialty drink recipes
  • ability to hear and follow oral or written instructions
  • capability to work safely and perform simple arithmetic
  • physical ability to perform job duties including lifting up to 40 pounds and standing for long periods
  • eligibility to obtain Food Handler's Certificate or complete training
  • satisfactory completion of pre-employment physical and Tier 1 background investigation

Job Duties

  • Prepare specialty coffee and tea beverages according to established recipes and procedures
  • safely operate coffee-making equipment including espresso machines
  • memorize a variety of specialty coffee drink recipes
  • follow oral and written instructions accurately
  • perform simple arithmetic related to coffee preparation
  • lift and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds frequently
  • maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the work area
