UW Medicine-Montlake is a leading healthcare provider and a part of the University of Washington's prestigious medical system, located in Seattle, Washington. The institution has established itself as a top-performing academic medical center, known for delivering exceptional patient care combined with cutting-edge medical research and education. The Montlake campus specifically supports the broader mission of UW Medicine by providing outstanding clinical services while enhancing community health and well-being. It stands out as one of the top hospitals in both Seattle and the state of Washington and continues to be nationally recognized for excellence in various medical specialties. The campus is conveniently situated near the UW campus, with easy access to public transportation, including a light rail station directly across the street, offering accessibility and convenience for both staff and visitors.
The Barista (Food Service Worker 2) position within UW Medicine-Montlake’s Food and Nutrition department presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the hospital environment by delivering high-quality food and beverage service. This full-time role, operating at 100% full-time equivalent (40 hours per week), includes two openings with different shift schedules such as night shifts (Sunday-Thursday, 8 pm to 4:30 am), afternoon to evening shifts, and day shifts, accommodating various preferences and needs of candidates. This role is integral to the Nutrition and Food Services department, which values compassionate, evidence-based care paired with excellent customer service. The department is focused on providing fresh, nutritious food for patients, families, and the wider community, aiming to enhance the overall healthcare experience.
In this position, the Barista independently manages a remote food service area or espresso bar, preparing and serving espresso beverages and food items while maintaining a clean, inviting environment. Responsibilities include operating all necessary equipment and machinery to serve food and beverages effectively, training new or less experienced staff, handling cash transactions accurately, and ensuring that food items are attractively displayed. The role demands excellent customer service skills, especially given the diverse patient and visitor population in the medical setting. Employees are expected to uphold the department’s standards of service and contribute to a supportive and empowering workplace culture.
Joining UW Medicine means becoming part of a dynamic and collaborative health system that integrates top-ranking medical schools, research institutions, and healthcare providers. This system values integrity, compassion, and respect across all levels of staff, emphasizing career growth and professional development. Employees benefit from working in an environment that encourages teamwork and innovation to improve patient outcomes and advance health knowledge. UW Medicine offers a supportive setting where individuals can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives while building rewarding careers in the healthcare sector.
