Job Description
UW Medicine-Montlake Food and Nutrition is part of the University of Washington Medical Center, a leading acute care academic medical center located in Seattle with two campuses: Montlake and Northwest. The UW Medical Center is recognized as the number one hospital in Seattle and Washington State since 2012 according to U.S. News & World Report. It is nationally ranked in seven specialties and is renowned for its compassionate patient care and pioneering medical advances. Located near the picturesque University of Washington campus, the Montlake campus offers its employees numerous amenities and convenient public transit, including access to the Sound Transit's light rail station just across the street.
The Nutrition and Food Services department supports UWMC's mission by delivering extraordinary experiences through compassionate, evidence-based care, unforgettable customer service, and providing fresh and nutritious food for patients, their families, and the community at large. The department envisions creating a supportive and empowering workplace for all staff members while continuously improving the quality of life and health of the public they serve.
This full-time, 100% FTE Barista (Food Service Worker 2) position offers two openings with different schedule patterns including night shifts (Sunday-Thursday, 8 PM-4:30 AM) or a mix of afternoon/evening shifts (Monday-Friday or Sunday-Wednesday, 2 PM-10:30 PM, with some mornings included). The position is regular, and the pay range is $21.77 to $24.48 hourly.
As a Barista, you will independently operate a remote food service area or espresso bar, preparing and serving espresso beverages and food items. The role involves routine work tasks such as making coffee and espresso drinks, cleaning the work area and equipment, and maintaining the overall appearance of the espresso bar. You will provide excellent customer service to a diverse customer base within a medical setting, ensuring respectful and friendly interaction. Additionally, training new or unskilled employees on the preparation and service of espresso beverages, cleaning and stocking duties, and departmental procedures will be part of your responsibilities.
The position requires proficiency in operating espresso and food service equipment and machinery, along with handling cash transactions including cash, check, and charge payments accurately and in line with departmental policies. You will also be responsible for preparing and serving food items, stocking necessary supplies, and displaying food and espresso items attractively to enhance customer experience.
