Job Description

The role being offered is located at 2103 Parkview Ave, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49008, and involves working within the coffee shop department. This position is vital to maintaining quality customer service and efficient daily operations within the coffee shop. The primary responsibilities revolve around preparing coffee beverages such as brewing, mixing, and blending according to standardized procedures to ensure consistent quality. Additionally, the role involves preparing food items following established guidelines, ensuring food safety and a clean working environment at all times. Handling transactions at the cash register with accuracy and courtesy is another key component of this position, requiring the employee to process various types of payments including cash, checks, credit cards, gift certificates, and coupons in a timely manner.

Beyond beverage and food preparation, this role includes managing stock levels by rotating coffee items and merchandise displays, staying knowledgeable about ongoing store programs and promotions, and efficiently using store equipment such as registers and coffee machines. The individual must be attentive to ordering supplies as needed by communicating with department leads or managers. Strict compliance with company policies on security, cash handling, product handling (including damaged or spoiled goods), and sanitation procedures is mandatory. Maintaining a clean and well-stocked department while following safety and sanitation standards is essential for providing a welcoming and compliant environment.

Exceptional customer service is expected, with team members encouraged to actively communicate the company’s loyalty programs, store specials, and available coupons while exemplifying high standards of service to enhance the overall customer experience. The role also demands adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety guidelines, food safety standards, cleaning expectations, and guest experience protocols. Flexibility to support other departments based on customer experience needs and additional responsibilities as assigned rounds out this dynamic role.

Job Duties

  • Prepare coffee shop beverages
  • brew, mix and/or blend beverages according to set standards
  • Prepare food items according to procedures
  • Ensure food and beverages are handled in a safe manner and work is completed in a clean work environment
  • Operate cash register to itemize customer purchases and process payments
  • Stock items and rotate coffee items and merchandise displays
  • Maintain understanding of current store programs and product locations
  • Understand use of check-stand equipment and coffee shop equipment and its efficient operation
  • Notify department lead or manager if products and supplies need to be ordered
  • Comply with company policies regarding security, cash handling, and product handling
  • Maintain a clean and well-stocked department
  • Communicate company programs, in-store specials and coupons to customers
  • Follow all PPE and safety guidelines
  • Follow all food safety and cleaning expectations
