Job Description

The French Door Café is an exciting new establishment founded by a dynamic mother and daughter duo who launched the café on Bastille Day, July 14th, 2025. This fresh addition to the Carlsbad dining scene has already begun to make waves, earning the prestigious New Business of the Year Award from the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. The café prides itself on offering a warm, inviting atmosphere where customers can enjoy expertly crafted coffee and delightful light fare. Its commitment to quality and community spirit is evident in every aspect of the business, from the carefully curated menu to the friendly, personalized customer service.

As a small but passionate team, The French Door Café is dedicated to fostering a collaborative work environment. The team values flexibility, dedication, and a willingness to contribute wherever needed. This openness has been key to their rapid growth and success in a competitive industry. The café currently operates Monday through Friday, with plans to expand as business continues to thrive.

We are currently seeking a Barista/Front of House (FOH) team member to join our vibrant staff. This position is ideal for someone who has a passion for crafting high-quality coffee beverages and delivering outstanding customer service. The role primarily involves covering shifts on Mondays and Fridays, with the option to work up to five days per week during morning hours from 8 AM to 1 PM. While the position starts as part-time, there is strong potential for it to evolve into a full-time role as the café expands.

In this role, you will be trained by an experienced lead barista who currently works part-time. You will learn to prepare the café's signature and seasonal drinks with precision and care, ensuring every cup served meets the high standards that customers expect. Beyond beverage preparation, your responsibilities will include managing orders through the TouchBistro POS system, handling cash transactions, and maintaining a smooth flow of service especially during busy periods.

The ideal candidate will excel at multitasking, able to juggle competing priorities with a calm and friendly demeanor. Customer satisfaction is paramount; therefore, you will be expected to provide warm greetings, respond to inquiries, and resolve any issues promptly, ensuring customers leave with a positive impression and a desire to return. A knowledge of French is a definite bonus, as many patrons enjoy engaging with the team in the language, enhancing the café’s charming, authentic vibe.

As part of a small team, flexibility is essential. You will be called upon to assist with various tasks such as running food to dine-in customers and helping clear dishes during rush hours. Maintaining cleanliness and adhering to food safety protocols in both the coffee preparation area and dining spaces are critical to the role. Additionally, during slower periods, you may help replenish drink supplies, tidy front-of-house areas, and wash dishes to keep the café running efficiently.

With a competitive hourly wage ranging from $18.00 to $21.00, the position offers a flexible schedule and paid training, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop their skills in a supportive environment. The French Door Café values prior barista experience and keen customer service abilities. Candidates must hold or be willing to obtain a Food Handler Certification. This opportunity is perfect for those passionate about coffee, customer engagement, and contributing to a thriving small business setting.
