At Gregorys Coffee, the barista role is much more than just preparing and serving coffee. Baristas are entrusted with maintaining the high standards and protocols of the company, mastering the art and science of coffee brewing, and engaging with guests to provide an outstanding service experience. Baristas learn and communicate detailed knowledge about the coffee program, the origins and components of each coffee, and the brewing methods used. Operating various coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, scales, and timers is a key part of the role, alongside managing point of sale and mobile payment systems. Baristas also perform crucial operational tasks like restocking, opening, closing, and mid-shift duties to keep the store running smoothly. Maintaining cleanliness and order throughout the premised, including the coffee bar, back rooms, restroom, and storage areas, ensures a safe and pleasant environment for both guests and staff.

Customer interaction plays a central role in the barista position. Baristas are responsible for taking accurate guest orders, resolving complaints professionally, and ensuring that every drink is crafted with care and detail. They also assist with receiving and verifying deliveries, checking for quality issues, and maintaining compliance with health department standards. The position demands the ability to work effectively in a high-volume setting while maintaining a friendly and positive attitude.

This job is appropriate for both full-time and part-time employees and is classified as non-exempt under FLSA guidelines. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous barista or customer service experience preferred
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds
  • Availability to work full-time or part-time
  • Strong communication skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to handle high volume work environment
  • Willingness to learn and adapt
  • Adherence to company dress code
  • Must be able to follow health and safety guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Knowledge of basic algebra and geometry concepts
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables
  • Knowledge of Square point of sale system and Timestation software
  • Department of Health and Mental Hygiene certificate preferred

Job Duties

  • Responsible for learning and maintaining company standards and protocols
  • Responsible for learning, understanding, and being able to speak knowledgeably about the company and the coffee program
  • Responsible for knowing and being able to speak about all coffees served including components, history, and brewing methods
  • Operates coffee brewing equipment, grinders, scales, timers, water towers, point of sale, and mobile payment systems
  • Restocks all areas of the store including coffee bar and back rooms
  • Performs opening, closing, and mid-day tasks
  • Responsible for learning and perfecting latte art
  • Maintains order and cleanliness through sweeping, mopping, cleaning drains, taking out trash, surface cleaning, and washing dishes
  • Provides guests with a memorable experience
  • Takes guest orders and ensures accuracy
  • Resolves guest complaints professionally or alerts leader on staff
  • Receives and signs for supplier orders
  • Checks quality and accuracy of delivered items
  • Takes and records temperatures as required
  • Works efficiently in high volume environment
  • Maintains health department standards
  • Keeps store clean, stocked, and organized including pastry case, condiment station, merchandiser, grab-and-go refrigerator, bathroom, and walk-in refrigerator
  • Abides by employee dress code protocol
  • Displays positive attitude and passion for coffee
  • Believes each drink brings value to customers
