Job Description
The Denver Museum of Nature & Science (DMNS) is a renowned institution located in Denver, Colorado, dedicated to scientific discovery and education. As one of the city’s premier cultural landmarks, the museum offers visitors an immersive experience into the natural sciences through exhibits, interactive displays, and educational programs. The museum not only prides itself on its commitment to science but also fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment that embraces curiosity, creativity, and intellectual exploration. DMNS values diversity and community engagement, striving to build meaningful relationships with its visitors, staff, and the broader community. Part of what makes the museum a beloved institution is its dedication to combining science with playfulness and empathy, making learning accessible and enjoyable for all ages.
The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is currently seeking a passionate and skilled Barista to join its retail coffee team on a part-time basis. This role is perfect for individuals who have a genuine love for coffee and enjoy interacting with people in a fast-paced environment. The Barista position focuses on the expert preparation and serving of espresso-based drinks, alongside other hot and cold beverages such as lattes and teas. Operating within a dynamic beverage assembly line, the Barista will be responsible for delivering consistent, high-quality drinks following established recipes or guest suggestions. The working schedule is flexible and to be determined, with an hourly wage of $21.00, reflecting the importance of customer service and product knowledge in this role.
As part of the coffee lab team at DMNS, the Barista will be expected to not only prepare beverages but also manage inventory, maintain cleanliness, and adhere to health and safety protocols for all coffee equipment. Effective communication and teamwork with fellow baristas are essential, as is a keen attention to detail to accommodate specific customer drink requests. The position requires familiarity with espresso machines, grinders, and the techniques for milk tempering and texturing. Beyond drink preparation, the Barista will assist with opening and closing duties, shelf stocking, and maintaining an orderly coffee retail space that meets the museum's high standards. This role also supports the museum’s core values by promoting a culture of curiosity, creativity, and empathy within the work environment. Candidates who are physically capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds will find this role fits well with their capabilities.
Overall, this is an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy being part of a vibrant museum setting and who want to contribute to the visitor experience by providing exceptional coffee and service. The Denver Museum of Nature & Science offers a supportive work environment in a culturally rich and scientifically inspiring locale that encourages employees to grow and thrive. If you are enthusiastic about coffee and hospitality, and you share the museum’s commitment to diversity and community involvement, this Barista position is an excellent fit.
